G16 & missing driver for Acronis Universal Restore

Hi ASUS-Xperts!
I'm already pretty happy with my new gear!

I just got my ASUS ROG STRIX G16 just yesterday! And I
I had a Lenovo Legion 5 16" (4070) at work before and was pretty happy with it. Now I have to give it back & decided for the G16. ASUS for the first time. Exiting!

I spend all day reinstalling it completely as I couldn't just use Acronis Universal Restore to just place my backup on the new metal, which worked for years and a big variety of Laptops I've been using over the last 10 years.
Acronis does not recognize the SSD or offers any driver for it. So the Lenovo backup couldn't be recovered.

Anybody knows why that is?
What can I do to make Acronis work here for my new gem?
What other backup software would you recommend to save (& what maybe supports bare-metal recovery & backup encryption)?

Any help appreciated!

Hello,

What is the exact model Asus laptop?

On the 2024 series the storage controller for the Intel based ones are set to Intel VMD, this means the OS or other bootable media may not detect the drives if the Intel VMD driver (RAID / RST driver) is not present. For normal use and non RAID configs you don't need this BIOS option enabled so simply disable the VMD option if that is what you have.

But note, changing this option on a standard unit means the drive will no longer boot, for anyone looking to reinstall the OS anyway this is not a problem.

Okay, thank you. Whenever I consider a bare-metal reinstall, I'll keep that in mind. For now, Acronis will just backup my data. I hope, I don't need a fully reinstall to soon.

I have a G16 with i9, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, RTX 4070.
