I am requesting an official Asus response, if possible, regarding the upcoming 2025 Strix SCAR laptops, specifically in terms of PCIe Lanes and M.2 maximum capacity.
1) My understanding is the largest pre-configured size we can order them from Asus is 2TB, but for those of us who need a LOT more space, can we swap it out for 4 or even 8TB? The website is a bit unclear. I would imagine that yes, we can put any size in there as long as form factor matches, but can we have confirmation, and maybe reword the official website. The way it is written now, it makes it seem the most it can have is 2TB, period. I am 99% sure we can use whatever capacity, but I'd rather not buy something now if there is some weird technical reason that I cannot think of that will make it incompatible.
2) It says the drive slots are Gen 5 compatible, but is there an issue with the PCI lanes? If we spring for a Gen 5 drive, are we able to take advantage of Gen 5 speed on the drives, and more importantly, will it drop the GPU back to a Gen 4? In other words, how many dedicated Gen 5 PCI lanes do these laptops have?
