I'm trying to reset my PC to factory settings before transferring ownership.
When I attempt to reset the PC through Windows 11 Settings > Recovery > Reset this PC and select the option to remove everything, the PC restarts but encounters a blue screen about 10 seconds after reboot.
The blue screen shows the following information:
Stop code: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
What failed: intelppm.sys
I can confirm this blue screen occurs consistently every time I attempt this process.
Additionally, I've found that restarting in Advanced Startup (from Recovery options) results in the same blue screen error.
I've already updated Windows, drivers, and firmware to their latest versions, but the issue persists.
Would anyone be able to provide some advice on how to resolve this?

I had a very similar issue on my ROG Strix G16 2023.
Same stop code, but instead of "intelppm.sys", it said "TbtBusDrv.sys" (the thunderbolt driver).
The solution was to disable the onboard audio in the BIOS.

Thank you for the information.
By the way, where was that setting located?
I checked the BIOS in Advanced mode, but I couldn't find anything that looked like it.

Disabling the onboard audio fixed the blue screen issue and allowed me to reset my PC. Thanks so much!

bro, this error is caused by ISST 2022 (Dec) incompatibility with bios 321-331. To reset settings (2023) you need the old BIOS, which Asus blocked!!! My old BIOS worked fine for 1 year, no bsods, everything is stable. on the motherboard of my strix, the production date is 11/18/2022, that is, my batch with i7 miraculously did not fall into the percentage of defective ones, but due to defects in other laptops of the 2023 series, I am forced to use bsod 331 like everyone else (idiocy)
Factory Windows (2023) was assembled and tested for older bios versions. And as far as I remember, in bios 330 the error “intelppm.sys” / “TbtBusDrv.sys” was corrected, but in bios 331 the error returned again + they blocked the downgrade.
Today I was at the service center, the technician and I tried to reflash the g814jv (2023) bios to the oldest 313 version, and as a result of AfuWin64 5.15 after pressing "flash" nothing happens, we tried AfuWin64 3 - the firmware is being updated and at the end there is a size bios error
that is, because of the idiocy of Intel, which prohibited downgrading the BIOS, I am obliged to look in my city for a person who can unsolder the chip, reflash it and insert it back so that the factory windows works without bsod (lots of clowns)
or you need to create a custom bios 331 and remove the line “internal speakers” so that the bios is similar to 313, this will remove audio restrictions and allow you to enjoy clear sound. but according to the plans of corporations, we, like blind sheep, must use updates that only spoil our laptops.

Hi Zalevskiy,
Thank you for the information.
I was wondering why this problem was occurring, but I understand now.
Honestly, I didn't know the cause, and I thought there was a problem with Raptor Lake.
It's terrible that the problem has recurred and that downgrades are not possible.
I hope the problem is fixed soon.

I forgot to add, I wouldn’t be surprised if Asus first installed one audio chip at the factory, then switched to another due to a shortage.
my G814JV N5042 (2023) Linux terminal displays the audio codec as Realtek ALC294
*G18 (2023) driver download page displays audio as for Realtek ALC3251
**JVR G18 (2024) driver download page displays audio as for Realtek ALC285
and I, as a consumer, must understand this whole driver of schizophrenia?? This is not normal, it shouldn't be like this. Why are BIOS developers forcing me to throw away my laptop if I could solve my mistakes without their stupid advice “we do not recommend you downgrade the BIOS”
