This was posted not long ago but now that post is closed. I just started having this happen to me. When i open a game. any game and the GPU switches the screen goes black and i have to reboot. I can hear sound but there is no way for me to get back.
Is there a fix for this? After it started happening i made sure the graphics drivers were up to date and no change. I am on 576.40 Windows 11. ROG Strix G16
Thanks

I had the exact same problem, same pc and everything- What I ended up doing is opening the Nvidia Control Panel, Clicking "Manage Display Mode", and making it stay in Optimus mode instead of Automatic Select mode.

ALSO It started happening to me after updating my drivers in Geforce so that may be a part of it

Last working driver for autoswitch optimus is 572.83.
The drivers after that all have the black screen problem. Raise a support note to Nvidia to get their awareness and hopefully fix in their next release.

Thanks, glad i am not crazy. Ok so i will try to submit a report and I will keep it locked in Optimus mode for now. Seems to work fine and i dont travel with this computer anyway so its always plugged in.

I noticed that the nvidia auto mode in factory windows after reset (22h2) worked flawlessly without black screens after the laptop went into sleep mode.
At the same time, if I install windows myself, even observing the sequence of installing the drivers of the same version as in the factory, then in automatic mode I will definitely have errors in the form of black screen backlights after exiting sleep.
Apparently, there are some patches / depending on the driver privileges, after which nvidia works stably, it is not always enough to simply install a certain version of the driver, each windows update can destroy this ASUS house of cards.

Can only comment this is with Win 11 24H2 with the latest monthly updates installed then trying each driver update.
Sometimes if you manually switch to Nvidia after each reboot then the auto switching will behave normally until your next reboot.

This issue often points to GPU driver or hardware problems. Try these quick fixes:
Clean reinstall your GPU drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode, then install the latest NVIDIA drivers.
Check for Windows updates and install any pending patches.
Test your GPU temperature and power supply to rule out overheating or power issues.
If problem persists, try rolling back to a previous stable driver version or contact ASUS support for hardware diagnostics. Usually, a clean driver reinstall solves most black screen issues on ROG Strix G16 with Windows 11.

im also having the same issue! it only happened as of recently and im wondering if its due to one of the last major windows updates i have the asus strix 18" with nvidia 4080. i have to turn off optimus mode and set the gpu as default.

As far as I've tried it's the video driver. Go and install Geforce driver ver 572.83 and you'll find optimus switching works normally.
So far all the 576 drivers released in the last 2 months have black screen when auto optimus switching.
