After 5 years of usage, it just randomly dies. I was using it one day and it shuts down out of nowhere. No lights on the charging indicator, sent it to repair and they say the motherboard might be dead.
Apparently, the CPU is dead. Or least they thought so cause they changed/checked everything else but the laptop still doesn't turn on.
What are your thoughts? Is this normal? Is this expected with the 5 years lifespan? Should I get a second opinion, etc? I was really hoping to use this laptop for at least 8 years. But it just dies on me randomly without any warning or glitches. I'm super sad because I'm on a tight budget and hard to find a "cheap" laptop with good specs.

Hello,
What repair place did you send it to?
If the CPU was dead and everything else ok, the charging light would still light up.
Was a new power supply actually tried? these can fail over time by losing their efficiency to the point of not being able to power the laptop but if only checked with a digital multi-meter can still show a voltage. (it's important to test a power supply under load). So if the repair place has no clue about testing and didn't try a working power supply it's not a good start.
Also the battery, if this is dead the laptop might fail to power up, depends on the laptop and battery but some now have built in protection to prevent further issues so if it is faulty the laptop may not power up or show a charge light.
Does the power supply work under load and not a simple multi-meter reading.
Is the battery ok
Why suspect the motherboard, what testing has been done to confirm this?
Does power get to the motherboard and at what point does it stop, is the power socket in the motherboard working?
(if ASUS test center they should have a more precise report for you, like what exactly has failed on the motherboard)
5 years of continuous use everyday and with high temps will likely see it nearing end of life sooner but there are a lot of aspects that can fail so maybe ask for definitive answers.

Legit the same thing just happened to me. I was playing Roblox when my computer just went dark-no warning. Was plugged in and I had battery at 60% charging limit. I have no clue what the hell happened
