Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 (G634JZ) RTX 4080 is stuttering when using the discrete GPU

Got this laptop last June 15 and I noticed that when using Ultimate in GPU mode in the Armoury Crate, games are stuttering really hard to the point that it's unplayable. They're also have lower FPS when the stuttering isn't happening. One of the things I noticed it that the GPU usage fluctuates between 50-99%.

The stuttering disappears once I use Standar in GPU mode which allows me to enable advanced optimus in the nvidia control panel, but that mode is busted too because I can't control the brightness level, the screen's brightness overly bright and it hurst my eye, and my display settings are detecting 2 monitors. So I'm avoiding that mode for now too.

Games which I've obeserved the stuttering:

  • Red Dead Redemption2
  • Cyberpunk 2077

I've yet to test other GPU intensive games, but so far the stuttering isn't present in games like DoTA2, Valorant or other non GPU intensive titles. I've tried using the recommended Nvidia drivers from the device's support page and clean installed my GPU drivers using DDU. I also tried fresh reinstalling windows but still nothing. I don't wanna update my BIOS though cause there seems to be an issue with ASUS laptops in updating the BIOS.

I keep submitting an issue every time there is new driver and still no fix in sight. I'm out my returns period on amazon but tempted to chargeback through Mastercard if the issue isn't addressed and fixed soon.

Daniel keep submitting feedback / rant, etc, everytime a new driver is out, use the nvidia driver thread/posts they create on reddit, guru 3d and nvidia forum, those 3 places are crucial and imporant, because nvidia employees check those threads on those 3 websites

Amazon support is amazing, they will give you the money back if you are not satisfied with a product during the 3 years of warranty

I have done this myself, talk to them, explain the issue, tell them theres no fix, ask if you can return if and get a refund on amazon chat support

P.S

THANKS for checking the peak brightness, even if you replied late, you still replied, thank you

Hey, is this the same issues you guys are having? https://youtu.be/j3hVKe0ZrAU?si=067DslKfro3bAfmr
I'm using the "ASUS TUF A15 RTX 4070"

Yeap, exactly that 100%

No word from Asus or nvidia since June

P.S

Share your video everytime a new driver is out, on nvidia driver official threads reddit, guru 3d, nvidia forum

And share your feedback here, when a new driver is out

We need to remember them, this issue is still not fixed

I tried disabling rebar which seemed to work for about 25 minutes then the stuttering came back. Any other fixes?

Yes this! Disabling re bar with profile inspector fixes it indefinatley for me until new driver comes out and resets the profile. This has been an issue since the Baldours Gate game ready driver for me. No fix in sight.

I don't think you read my reply correctly. Disabling rebar didn't fix the issue for me, got the stutters again but it took longer to happen. Any other fixes?

Oh sorry. No can't help there you seem to have a new problem. Could try a DDU uninstall of the drivers and try again.

I'd like to thank you all for actively following this issue. Great news, I have a new game on my stuttering list! Assassin's Creed Mirage! It stutters every half second and if it wasn't for the Frametime graph you'd think you're having a stroke. I managed to fix this by disabling Resizeable Bar using Nvidia Profile Inspector so it looks to me that ReBar might be the culprit behind all this. However I don't have RDR2 or Cyberpunk installed to verify it and probably close this query. Cheers to all
