Got this laptop last June 15 and I noticed that when using Ultimate in GPU mode in the Armoury Crate, games are stuttering really hard to the point that it's unplayable. They're also have lower FPS when the stuttering isn't happening. One of the things I noticed it that the GPU usage fluctuates between 50-99%.
The stuttering disappears once I use Standar in GPU mode which allows me to enable advanced optimus in the nvidia control panel, but that mode is busted too because I can't control the brightness level, the screen's brightness overly bright and it hurst my eye, and my display settings are detecting 2 monitors. So I'm avoiding that mode for now too.
Games which I've obeserved the stuttering:
I've yet to test other GPU intensive games, but so far the stuttering isn't present in games like DoTA2, Valorant or other non GPU intensive titles. I've tried using the recommended Nvidia drivers from the device's support page and clean installed my GPU drivers using DDU. I also tried fresh reinstalling windows but still nothing. I don't wanna update my BIOS though cause there seems to be an issue with ASUS laptops in updating the BIOS.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Thanks this is great news, i have installed the new driver and will test Red Dead Redemption 2 since i have it already installed. I am happy of the progress made so far, but The list of reBAR enabled games is only going to grow going forward and this is a structural issue not a "per game" issue, so a global fix must be found. The reddit discussion where a potential incompatibility of Rebar with Tiger Lake chipsets is mentioned is an interesting lead, but what about other cpu's like the alder Lake 13th gen?
EDIT: TESTED RDR2 with the new driver 546.65, it is indeed fixed but only under Directx 12, Under Vulkan it still exhibits the exact same behaviour as before (low and wildly fluctuating fps no matter the settings or resolutions used, stuttering) it is a step in the right direction in the sense that at least i can play it now, but not being able to use the most stable and better performing API is not exactly something to celebrate. I may test hitman 3 and follow it's development, if i do i will keep you all posted.

It was absolutely foreseeable, but just fyi drivers 551.23 released yesterday di not fix the reBAR related huge performance issues under Vulkan API for Red Dead Redemption 2. I am heading to the nvidia forum and reddit to give my feedback.

Thanks.
I can confirm DX12 rebar for RDR2 is fixed now, haven't tried Vulkan 551.23. Sucks though, RDR2 runs better in Vulkan API

I'm getting some weird behaviour from my new Asus scar 16 4090 I got today. Weird hitches and freezes in games. For example Witcher 3. Runs away above 60fps but like every 3 seconds the fps thanks to the 40s for a split second, freezing the game and then it just back up again.
Updates are reeeeeeeeally slow.
I'm coming from a blade 14 and I didn't have the same behaviour

This is getting annoying now. I have had my scar 16 5 months im really considering sending back to Amazon and taking a crack at the 2024 scar 18 , that looks a beast, maybe the 14th gen intel cpu and 4090 combo has had these issues with ReBar worked out..
Edit.. cant return it but as of late all my issues have gone away. This threads main point was due to an issue specifically with resizable bar causing performance loss

Best of luck if you ever got a refund. I got mine via gray market so I can only get a store warranty

I've got the ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614JZ since Nov 25. I experience stutters during gaming, but also during office work in Windows. During gaming it happens every 2 minutes (average). In Windows once in 30 minutes. It's driving me crazy.
I have tried everything mentioned in this topic.
Any suggestions? Should I return it?

GeForce Hotfix Driver 551.46 released yesterday reports fixing ReBAR related stuttering under Vulkan API for Red Dead Redemption 2, i'll try it and report back.

Unfortunately, it did not solve my problem. I'm testing my problem with Rocket League, because the stuttering happens there every 2 minutes. After installing the Hotfix, the issue still remains the same.
I'm getting worried that it is a hardware issue.
