Asus ROG Strix G18 (2023) G814JV bios downgrade error

How can I now rollback the BIOS to version 313? After updating MyASUS to 331 I tried using EzFlash to rollback to any other than 331 (313-330) I see an error

Selected file is not a proper BIOS
Before the update, I could downgrade the BIOS to any version from the Asus website without any problems.

The problem is not in the flash drive, because 331 is flashed back to 331. also tried to downgrade via WinFlash /nodate but after rebooting EzFlash and again Selected file is not a proper BIOS

Factory Windows Home 22H2 v2.05 with ISST 2022 drivers sounds great quality only 313 bios version. By the way, this was the most stable bios, new 331 for 85-90 degrees celsius with undervolting. 313 temperatures 70-80 degrees celsius with undervolting.

I guess BIOS version 313 uses more voltage for HD Audio. Even when loading boot ROG logo sounds more detailed and nicer than 317-331 bios. And in combination with ISST 2022 + Realtek 2022 the sound is transformed into premium quality, all other BIOS make muffled sounds, high frequency detail is lost. If the problem is the new 12B microcode, should I expect a re-upload of 313 along with the 12B added to it, or have all previous BIOS versions turned into a pumpkin forever?

Thanks.

An effective method for limiting frequencies in power plans, fan noise is quieter during rendering.

Are there any pros on the forum who understand editing bios firmware? I found one video, but what is the risk of making a mistake and flashing to a black screen. I think it has to do with the firmware region. It’s surprising why there weren’t such block-bloods until this moment.

With old Winflash.exe from Windows it was enough to specify parameter "/nodate" to ignore dowgrade prevention... not sure if latest ASUS flash bios exes still use Winflash (maybe the installation script is hackable?).

1000% sure that's the correct BIOS file for your laptop?

Contact ASUS support directly asking for TECHNICAL SUPPORT to downgrade BIOS for job requirements (make it serious). There must be a way... 🤞🏻

EDIT:

in this thread (ITA, translate to ENG) for desktop ASUS mobo is mentioned  the pendrive MUST be FAT32, and there was a pre-processing to do on the BIOS file with a so called "BIOSRenamer.exe" which changes extension to .cap.

This other thread can help, maybe: Flash any / most asus motherboard bios in dos with... - Republic of Gamers Forum - 735168

The few links about this topic are always for desktop mobos unfortunately... have no idea if same procedure is safe for ASUS laptops. It can be dangerous.

I already tried to flash WinFlash /nodata, at first I got a BSOD (2 attempts) after downloading another newer version of WinFlash, the process went through, I pressed Exit, the laptop rebooted into EzFlash and again Selected file is not a proper > cancel > reboot

AFUDOS I found a 2019 video with these instructions, but I thought that it was not relevant for 2023. Has anyone tried to lower the strix / scar using this method? The firmware file is original 100%, I of course observed asus drivers / bios installers rewrite from time to time, for example Update_1 Update_2 may be added to the .exe name, their edits are opaque, I have no idea what they changed and what these corrections will lead to. Sometimes the date attributes of the same BIOS downloaded a month later may change.

As for the service center, this is out of the question.. ASUS no longer works in RU (Parallel import). If my laptop breaks, it will be easier to buy a new one than to try to repair it. Therefore, vodka bears and afudos.

thanks for the idea, to check this I need to be sure that afudos will not turn my device into a black box.

I had thoughts that maybe it’s a hidden EFI partition and it needs to be specially marked, using the example of a Dell laptop:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/jw06pe/guide_inspiron_7567_bios_downgrade_from_v1121_to/

but I excluded this method, I remember last year I couldn’t roll back to 313 (it was allowed to 318-321) then asus apparently re-recorded 313 with the corrected one and I was able to downgrade. I really hope that Asus will re-upload the bios.

If I were you I'd ask for support in that Linux distro forum... They are usually very kind, and committed in expanding HW support, so maybe they can suggest an easier solution than playing with fire trying to force an older BIOS.

if you open BIOS 313 / 330 / 331 using AMIBCP 4.53

331 > Minor 27 version has changed, all old versions had Minor 26. This probably does not allow downgrading the BIOS. But at the same time, having edited 26 to 27, it’s not a fact that my laptop won’t boot after the firmware. I'm not ready to become a kamikaze.

Yeah, there are many experiments you can try... but I don't think it would be wise and probably brick the laptop!

If your only problem with BIOS 331 is because of a Linux distro incompatibility, ask for help in the distro forums or change whole distro...
