ASUS ROG Strix G15 (2022) - USB Webcam Power Issue?

Hi, I bought a ASUS ROG Strix G15 (2022) recently (factory refurb).

I bought it exclusively to use for streaming (if you care, I play semi-professional foosball... yeah table soccer).

Anyway here's the issue, very repeatable:

  • plug in El Gato Facecam directly to USB3 port (not c type). --- camera works great (using OBS, streaming to FB - don't judge, foosball people don't know what twitch is).
  • plug in El Gato to USB 3.0 extension cable 6.6ft - camera works for 1-3 min... then stops working (camera source freezes).
  • plug in El Gato to identical (i bought 2 on amazon) cable --- freeze
  • plug in el gato to NEW longer (25ft) cable with injected power (thinking this was a power issue). --- freeze.
  • use USB C adapter which has 2 usb3 ports.... plug camera into that... freeze, use extension--- freeze... all conditions, freeze.
  • ---- only fix so far, other than direct connect elgato to ASUS --- plug el gato in ANY config above (direct, extension, powered extension, usb c adapter) into my MSI Modern 15 Ryzen 7 laptop purchased refurbished in Dec 2023.... --- 100% success rate (including a 14 hour stream for an all day tournament with the 25' extension cable WITHOUT external injected power connected).
  • problem is, camera needs to be just over 6' from the laptop to make our setup work.... i'm sad. I love the ROG laptop but... it's not doing what I would have thought would be a pretty simple task.

I'm (hopefully clearly) able to diagnose/collect data... but I'm at a loss for what could be causing this beyond a defective MB (this was the 2nd one, first machine arrived DOA... maybe that's my answer?).  I think I've passed my return window, not sure about warranty from factory refurb.

Oh, from ASUS website, all drivers are up to date and I'm currently on a completely fresh install of W11.

Any/All Advice is very welcome... thanks for your time!
