Hello everyone. That's my first comment in this thread. I wanted to share my experience with GL553VE. For 3 years I only used software modifications like throttlestop for CPU and MSI afterburner for GPU. For a long time my settings were the following
CPU voltage -130mv. and disabled turboboost.
GPU maximum clock 1709 and max voltage 950mv (that low voltage sometime caused crashes. So I increased this by a bit and get it to 975mv.)
that was almost good. I had max 82C with full fan speed.
Until this year my warranty ended, so I decided to repaste my laptop. I took all needed precaution and bought the best items in category for each one of the following.
1.Thermal paste = mx4 2019
2. Thermal pads= Arctic thermal pads 1.0*mm
3. Isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the old one.
4. cotton swabs
5. Some coffee filter (I found out this is almost the best for cleaning old thermal paste + a plastic card + a toothbrush for the chips around the GPU)
It was something like this. Terrible job on pasting this. This one is from the official warranty center (or something like that) for ASUS in England and I did it in the 2nd year. It came back like this.
any way, I removed all the protective films and now it looks like this (this is optional.)
this is what I removed
.
After a thorough cleaning of everything and even replace the thermal pads I applied a small dot of thermal paste and then put the cooler from right to left. I did not push it with my hands. I let it fell and I only applied push with the screws first CPU then GPU.
As you may notice, I also replace thermal paste with thermal pads in the small chips left of the CPU
.
When closing things up, make sure the plastic in the following picture is outside the cooler, like this:
After that I also change my settings to achieve more performance with lower presumed temperatures as following.
GPU max core clock 1000mv (instead of 950)
Throttlestop voltages as it was but now I enabled speed shift with value 128 (that really makes a difference) and also enabled the turboboost.
Now I play most of simple games around 70C and with LOWER SPEED ON FAN (60-80% instead of 100%) (BF4 ultra, Word of warships maximum).
And more demanded games like Watchdogs 2 in very high in 78C max but mostly 75.
Extra tips:
with the latest driver of NVIDIA go to control panel and change maximum fps to 60 (you don't need more) this will stress your pc less when gaming.
see a tutorial of Throttlestop to start up when you start your computer to apply all of your settings.
