Asus GL553VE - CPU/GPU Temperatures while gaming/Throttling

Hi Guys,

I purchased Asus GL553VE laptop about a month back..I just wanted to know your temperatures while gaming..While playing games such as Mafia 3, Mass Effect Andromeda, my CPU and GPU temperature both reaches around 82-85 degrees Celsius after 10 minutes of playing. My ambient temperature are close to 35 degrees celsius.

As its a new laptop, therefore i rule out the possibility of thermal paste, dust accumulation, heatsink problems, etc. Also, the airflow out of the heatsink also seems fine to me. I have tried lowering down my CPU processor state/frequency in power state to disable turbo boost, even then the CPU temperature reach around 82 degrees or so.

Could you guys help me in knowing what temperatures do you get while playing similar games and if its normal?

Thanks

They plan to release it with the installer so please wait for them to upload this new version where it will make life a lot easier for those who don't know how to extract the BIOS file.

any news on this?

Bios 303 file is posted on Asus site since September 19th.
It can be installed normally, using win flash program, you may find it under Bios utilities menu, on the same Asus drivers page.

Sorry, missed it. Just installed.
Anything changed with new bios? Still need to disable turbo boost?

I really dunno, I had mb replaced due to repetitive BSoD and inability to install Creators update and GPU driver.
now, it's working well with 302 and frankly I'm fine with that (I successfully installed Creators update and GPU driver) and I'm waiting for others feedback about any improvements.

apparently not. installed 303, restore all defaults in power management, bios all defaults.
just lunched diablo3 -

I have GL553VD with the i5-7300HQ.. gaming on max settings would have my CPU hitting 85degrees and GPU 80degrees. So to keep my laptop healthy I lowered the settings and limit FPS to around 50fps. Temps would be 75degrees. Btw without lowering settings theres no throttling on the i5 processor but I still want a lower temperatures.. HOWEVER I'VE SEEN MSI'S LAPTOP WITH THE SAME SPECS HITTING 82DEGREES MAX ON THEIR CPU BUT A LOW 70DEGREES ON THEIR GPU DESPITE HAVING 2FANS AND PLENTY OF HEATPIPES. SO I THINK IT'S QUITE NORMAL TO HIT THOSE TEMPS.

It sounds like your unit may be defective so it's probably better to contact technical support and arrange to send it back for RMA.

Hi Bahz..what cpu/gpu temperatures do you get on your laptop when playing games similar to mafia 3, mass effect andromeda, etc. Also please do mention your ambient temperature too..thanks

I don't have this sample on hand but if it's in the 80s (on the warmer side) while gaming is actually within range for this CPU and GPU, the laptop shutting down I'm afraid might be something else causing it like a possible issue with the power supply. I highly recommend that you contact our technical support and after discussing with them that they feel is an issue with the unit then you should send it back for RMA.
