ASUS Gaming Laptops Have Been Broken Since 2021: A Deep Dive

ASUS ROG stutters/crackles? It’s not Windows or NVIDIA. It’s firmware. I traced ACPI.sys spikes to a GPE handler that sleeps + bad dGPU power logic.

Thank you for this analysis.
I have a Zephyrus G16 2024 with the Intel 185H, and its the same.
It's embarrassing to even open a YouTube video at work.
With all the world's advancements it makes no sense that we are still having these Win98 syndrome.
And some still say AI is going to replace programmers. lol

BIOS 327 for my G835LX-XS97 (2025) has come out (RTX 5090 mobile with Intel Core Ultra 275HX) and I am currently testing. Will let you guys know the results of this update!

I had some stuttering on my 2025 scar 19 5090 machine, I have been following this topic and issue and I noticed bios update the other day 327 so I updated and the stuttering in Expedition 33 went away.. Coincidence or not I am not sure, I'm not sure if the 2025 models even have this firmware issue.

yes most 2025 had this issue i tried 2 models after bois update everything working well expect display port type c on monitor sometime i get some stutter

EDIT AS OF OCTOBER 4, 2025 11:22 p.m. EST

finally crashed with the display adapter failing on me. Tower of Fantasy with settings maxed on ASUS recommended NVIDIA driver 576.65 crashed with the GPU turning off for no apparent reason. Latencymon showed same issues while in ultimate mode. STILL NOT FIXED.

Hi! I have come back to report results after sustained use and no shut downs, while using turbo or max fan operations while retaining defaults for clock speeds and have not witnessed a single crash. I have done sustained load 3DMark testing, no crashes as of yet and even went to my most crashiest game ever, with ultra graphics and ray tracing on max on (ULTIMATE) DISCRETE GRAPHICS MODE, Wuthering Waves has not crashed on me on sustained load! This has never happened before, but I will report more results once I've gotten through at least a week of daily driving using only ULTIMATE to see if there are any display anomalies and most of all, crashes, which I have yet to report!

I updated today to bios 314 for 2023 M16 GU604VI. Latency and freezing are still present.

Try this experiment by installing a Strix/Scar 2023 recovery image (WinNTSetup in offline mode). The idea is that our laptops (Intel-based) have the same driver. However, the recovery image is designed to bypass the driver lockout after the warranty expires. If this helps, I'll share the Zephyrus Recovery Image 22H2 instead. The internet search only turns up Chinese (it's difficult).

I'm sorry but my computer DIY abilities are limited. I'm not well versed enough to swap recovery images and such.
