[Asus G75 / Nvidia GTX 660M] Graphics Card stopped working

I own the Asus G75 with the GTX 660M gpu.

While i was playing WoW today suddenly my game crashed and got a message that my graphic card driver stoped working and that it has been recovered (i dont remember the full message but that was basicly it). I restarted the game and same thing happened again and at the third time my whole computer went blank and restarted automaticly.

Also im getting some wierd artifacts on my Windows Loading screetn every time ever since then (thats the only place where i notice it):

After that when i got back to Windows it looks like my graphics card is not working anymore.

I cant even access the Nvidia Control Panel. When i try to open it i get the following message
"NVIDIA Display settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU"

11811

Also this is the status i get about my display adapter in Device Manager
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

11812
The laptop was with the stock display drivers. I never installed any new drivers before this problem occured.

Things i tried in order to fix the problem:

I uninstaled the current Nvidia display drivers and instaled the latest drivers for my GPU from the official Nvidia site but it didnt fix the problem.

I did a System Restore from Windows to a point when everything was working good and it didnt fix the problem.

Please help

I just received the same error message for the first time. Given the issues I've been having, this more or less confirms to me that my GPU is more or less a time bomb. In relation to OP, though, I'm on a 670m, not a 660m.

I would say you've got a faulty GPU like I do.

I am doing a full System Recovery to the default factory settings from the recovery partition as im writing this.
I will let you know if that will fix the problem.

If it doesnt work then it must be a hardware related problem.

UPDATE:
I just finished with the recovery process and the problem is still here 😞

When you have got artifact on the screen, it is hardware problem. You need an RMA to solve this problem.

Mine does the same thing 😞 I'm about to take it back to the store.

In my case the problem was a defective GPU. I sent back the computer, they replaced the GPU and now everything works fine.

Yea it was obviosly a defective GPU. I alredy sent it back to the store like a week ago.

Today i went to check whats going on and they told me they ordered and are waiting for the new GPU to arrive.

So my question is, is it possible for them to change the GPU without changing the whole motherboard?
Becouse i think ive read somewhere that the GPU is soldered to the mb, maybe im wrong.

Yes, in my case at least the report from RMA has a check on "VGA substitution" and no check on "Main board"...

I had an old ASUS M51SN that died with an artifact like that though it was 4 years old and put up with a lot. Definitely the GPU is toast and the GPU is likely mounted your board as in most laptops so it is likely that they'll replace the entire board. I know on my old ASUS they did that more than once due to cooling issues (hitting 94C in the GPU)
