ASUS FIX THIS! GL Series: ALL display panels affected by inverse ghosting

hexaae
Level 12
Inverse ghosting reported by many users with display panel AUO B173HAN03.2 [AUO329D] (GL703GS). Also with G-Sync OFF and in fullscreen or window. Look at the borders of the distant objects and you'll see an ugly dark ghost trail while moving mouse.

I'm uncertain if a driver has fixed the issue. That said, it has improved. However there have been times when it has been visible and times when it hasn't. Re-starting my laptop usually fixes things. Only issue i have now is the Gaming Centre no longer works.

Gaming Center stopped working for me too on my GL702VS but i mostly used it to disable the touchpad but then i noticed W10 has a setting to disable the the touchpad when a mouse is connected.

Thanks for info hexaae. I ordered a GX701GXR two weeks ago and I still have not been able to try it because I am out on business. Only yesterday I read this thread. However on the GX701 I have noticed that the opinions are mixed. Some have this issue, others would seem that don't noticed this problem. What is the situation Rog3 Gx701?

Hey any update, hows your laptop working, any issues?

I am also looking for a good laptop to buy, but... to be honest all the issues i see with the Asus panels really makes it a hard PASS.

Has this been addressed by Nvidia and G-sync maybe?

If not any recommendation what else to look for?

No both NVidia and ASUS ignored the issue...

Hey, thanks for replying!

Do you know any reviewers that test for this in the 2020 lineup?

https://www.ultrabookreview.com/ IMHO is the best: ask in the comments, the author usually replies...

Using your laptop in Optimus mode through Armory Crate and running the game you want by right clicking in the .exe and run with the NVIDIA Graphics Processor. That was it to me. I own a Zephyrus S 2019. It seems this way the overdrive tweak is finally disabled. Hope it helps sb.

Well my GL702VS died (my own fault), spilled a beer over it and went to the kitchen to get some paper and it was dead when i got back. Took it apart and there were burned circuits near the power adapter input, should have pulled the power plug the moment i spilled 😞

Tried to dry it out but no go, was about to take to the recycling place when my gf hassled me to check with the insurance company, i finally caved in and called them and goddamn it was covered 😄 😄 😄 .

First the insurance company checked with an electronics repair company and the motherboard and keyboard/topcover had to be swapped (keyboard is bolted to the topcover) but the prices on those from Asus were almost the fullprice of a new GL702VS and add repair costs to that so i got money and because it was only 2 years old i got fullprice minus excess.

Went with a Dell G7 17-7790 this time with a i7-9750H and a RTX2060 MaxQ and a 144Hz non g-sync ips display. I can mention the display on the Dell covers 100% srgb, shines with 380 nits (had to lower the brightness 3 steps or get a pair of sunglasses 😄 ). Also it looked fine colorwise but checked it with a i1 Display Pro (<1.5dE, color temp within 200 degres, gamma ok) so perfectly ok directly from factory - amazing or i got lucky 😄

After a clean install with W10-2004 to get rid of all Dell and Alienware stuff the Dell G7 is now my new favorite :D, was worried about tearing since it does not have g-sync but no tearing so far, 144Hz top quality display (Dell partno 8TV4Y, 173HCE ChiMei) seems work fine without g-sync 😄 .

-EDIT-

No inverse ghosting in dx12 either.
