Anyone here install an mSATA SSD in an Asus G55vw?

Hello,
So I am wondering about the whole mSATA port on this beast. You can save the "warranty void, shoot yourself its too hard to get to" comments. Now, I have seen pictures of the motherboard and I understand that getting to it requires going to about the second step of the assembly line at the factory. All I want to know is, is there actually room for it? Is there some kind of spacing on the bottom cover of this thing for it to be placed? The main reason I ask is, I was doing some research trying to figure this out, and I realized that HIDevolution offers mSATA SSD upgrade on the G46, but not the G55... hmmm. This is odd to me. Either A, there is no room, or B, its such a pain in the ass to get to that THEY don't even wan't to do it. Any info on this would be great!

yes, it can be done because there are retail models with both ssd and hdd (with ssd in msata form; and we know that it's hard to get to that msata port).

there is an offer of msata ssd upgrade for g55 at hidevolution.com

got Crucial M4 msata 256gb installed in mine 😄 works as a charm + stock one 750GB left inside for storage...
after talking to a guy who works at Asus service point here he told me that I could get laptop and new msata drive to them and they would install it for free if laptop is in warranty

I appreciate their offer if they really said that, but after what I have heard about Asus and their repair centers, I would probably let my 2 year old daughter take a shot at it before going that route.

The port will work perfectly fine. MydigitalSSD confirmed to work in G55VW. You will need the tiny screws to hold down the drive, but otherwise nothing else is needed. The scew is the same one that is used for holding down wireless cards in mpcie slots. I happen to have a lot of the screws because the come with almost every dell my work gets and we don't use them.

Thank you for pointing that out. I clicked on the $1395 Asus G55 and it was not an option. There are two AsusG55vw options on HIDevolution. I didn't see that.

I have been doing my homework on installing an mSata SSD in my Asus G55vw. I have found that mSata SSD have two mounting holes on the opposite end of the card than the socket insert is on. I only see one hole on the Asus G55vw motherboard and it is rising out of the board. I am still not sure if anything extra is needed to do this?

Also, the mSata on the Asus G55vw is SATA 3 correct?

Also, my 360 GB Corsair Force GS SSD failed on me! After less than a month! Glad I removed sticker on box super carefully. Sending it back to newegg for a refund. Going to get a mushkin 240gb sata 3 ssd and try to run these badboys in raid!
