Hi

i have the asus g74sx-bbk9 from best buy and im just stomped at this but some games like lost planet 2, and mass effect 1,2,3 play fine on 1920 x 1080 res on this laptop but games like WoW, FFXIV, SWTOR, and even AION seem to play alil rough

so my question is what am i doing wrong because if it can play high end games then how come MMO's seem to be a complete issue when they come into play, im ready to take this damn thing back and get my alienware back

Have you looked into trying out Throttlestop to see if your computer is being throttled due to the overload of GPU/CPU?

I once had a similar issue, where new games would play fine but older ones would lag. It occurred after i updated the nvidia driver, so I just installed the old one again. Try installing a different driver and see if it makes a difference.

Excellent advice illuvatar, video drivers are so complex that no company can test every combination of card, CPU, and game. I would tend to doubt that it is throttling, since the ROG line has excellent cooling, and the sandybridge systems haven't been known to do so. Also, if throttling due to heat were the issue, then newer and more demanding games would tax (and heat) the system more. My guess is either a video card driver incompatibility (possible), or else a problem with your internet connection (likely). Considering that you said all the online games lagged, it is likely a bad internet connection. How do you connect to the internet?
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

i connect to games with hard wire, and i have a 50mb/s connection so i doubt its that

Sweet Net connection...:)

My guess then would be that there are driver incompatibilities. Try checking in the release document from nVidia, to see if they are documenting any performance regressions. They test against a number of the most popular games, but older ones might be documented to suffer performance issues.

I would update your nvidia driver set.
I was having problems with 296.16 driver set that Asus put out, was getting big FPS drop offs in BioShock2.
would be getting 55 plus FPS one second, then it would drop off 10 FPS or lower in some areas.
was also getting some stuttering problems, and some minor FPS drop offs in other games.
them I did a driver search on the nvidia site and updated to the 301.42 WHQL driver set.
big difference, now getting great results in all game.
so far this is working out well for me, still testing but so far no problems.
try this update, hope this helps you.

here's the link.
