Hello I'm new to these forums so sorry if there is already a thread on this. I have a G75VW-BBK5 (bought from Bestbuy) It currently has 8 gigs of RAM and I am planning on adding more to get 16 gigs of RAM, I Don't know too much about the speeds and brands of RAM and was wondering what would you recommend me buying, sorry if this question sounds dumb but I just don't know much on what exactly I'm supposed to be looking for. Thanks in advance.

Would one of the following ram block work for a G75VX???

KINGSTON 4GB SO-DIMM 1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 - KVR16S11/4

Crucial DDR3 SO-DIMM 1600MHz 4GB CL11 - 1600Mhz (PC3-12800), CL11, 204pin, 1.35V/1.5V

Think they are the same, but wan't someone to confirm it 🙂

You should be fine with them. What is the voltage on the Kingston? If you don't know the voltage of your current RAM, check CPU-Z. If the Crucial RAM will work with either (1.35 or 1.5 V), then that may be something to consider. You listed all the relevant specs in RAM, so far as I can see.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

We now have 178 people whose systems will not break! Yippee! 🙂

Arh cool, so if it can handle both it's fine 🙂

Cool, thanks a lot!

Forgot to ask.. CAS latency

How big of a deal is that.. I see some have 9, where others have 11 - Does that have anything to say, if the ones inside the laptop is 9, but those I add is 11?

List of rams I'm looking at:

Have no idea whats inside the laptop other then it's SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 MHz and a G75VX

@sagi I not postive but I think if you put 11's with 9's being your latency your ram will not work or it will run with the slowest speeds so they will all run with 11's but im not sure but good question Im curiuos to know that for sure myself.

@whathedo69 is right.

i used a 4x4gb corsair vengeance before. it downclocked the ram clock from 1600Mhz to 1333Mhz. if you run mixed ram, you need to determine the right clock and all to find the matching one to avoid this.

hwinfo64 actually also give you the model number of your stock ram. you can look for it to get the best match.

So has anyone been successful at adding ram and keeping the clock speed as your default ram? I have samsung pc3-12800 with timming 11-11-11. I can't find anything close to that except 9's which, if my memory servers me right, would NOT underclock since 9's are better than 11's. Correct?

Get the Hynix modules, you can find them on eBay for quite cheap around 40 bucks for an 2x4gb (8gb) kit _ but do buy the 1600mhz modules, they are all clocked at 1600mhz 11-11-11-28_ The largest they go is 4gb modules for the Hynix, really great ram and reliable.

I did this and was able to upgrade from 8gb to 16gb with all slots filled and my current timings are 1600mhz 11-11-11-28

TO answer your question, CAS 9 is better than CAS 11, but CAS9 @1333mhz is worst than CAS11 @1600mhz, although CAS9@ 1600mhz will out perform CAS11@1333mhz.

@XPerties, yeah previously i had 24gb (2x4gb stock; 2x8gb kingston), this combo keeps the clock speed (as well as some other combos). the key is to find the matching ram.

er.. sorry i don't get what you meant by 9's.
