Hello I'm new to these forums so sorry if there is already a thread on this. I have a G75VW-BBK5 (bought from Bestbuy) It currently has 8 gigs of RAM and I am planning on adding more to get 16 gigs of RAM, I Don't know too much about the speeds and brands of RAM and was wondering what would you recommend me buying, sorry if this question sounds dumb but I just don't know much on what exactly I'm supposed to be looking for. Thanks in advance.

I was thinking about that, but still that's a huge amount of RAM for just video editing

what is ram disk? is it something I could use? and yes I just do browsing and games, nothing else special, I have that G75VW with 12GB of RAM

really? to us it's not that 'huge' i must say.

in short a ram disk is a hard drive based on ram. it has a number of obvious advantages: speed, speed, speed. normally i use it for working directory, web browser caching and download placeholders, and to house my temporary directories; it can be saved before shutdown, so that you can load them up on the next boot.

below is a comparison of a normal hdd (7200rpm) and my ramdisk:

1) 500gb 7200rpm hdd
14887

2. ramdisk
14888

What exactly do you mean by, "working directory"? And how do you do it?

I know how to set up the RAM disk for browser caching and Windows temporary, but… The other things you mentioned eluded me. Even the part about being able to save it so they will load on the next boot.

Paulovrv, it might work, or not. we have friends reported that there were issues when they used corsair vengeance (4x8gb); however, some did report success. the reasons of inconsistency are unknown.

Hi! Worked... I guess.
In BIOS, the 32Gb appears. In system properties, too.
I just don't know if it means that the 32Gb full works.
But for multitask, for example, it seems to be fine. Immer schnell!

Tks!

Awesome! As long as you don't have Win 7 Home Premium you should be fine. LINUX will address all 32 GB, as will Win 8 and Win 7 Pro or Ultimate.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

Hi rewben,

I am planning to upgrade my ram and i saw on the hwinfo64 that i am currently using a hynix memory.
I checked and called some of the sellers here in my country and the known ram is only kingston. Will it still be compatible?
One more thing, since i can only see this one kingston pc3-1600 ddr3, does thing mean that this is already a dual channel?
By the way, i also checked something on the website of kingston and it looks like they have the same suggestion and below is the link.
Appreciate your input on this one.

I use a mixture of Hynix and SpecTek at 9-9-9-24 1333 MHz and they work fine in dual-channel mode, but my system is only running 16 rather than 32 GB of RAM. As long as the specs are matched, you should be OK, like @rewben says, have them verify that the RAM works and you should be fine. I've heard nice things about Kingston's return policies, so you should be OK if the RAM doesn't work out.

Hi rewben and Zygomorphic,

I am stuck with this thing again as I am thinking if I will be doing an upgrade or not.
I checked with most of the stores here and they are hesitant to try the ram at their store and told me to try it out myself first and they are stating other reasons or whatsoever. Even some of the sales person looks like they only know the mhz thing but the other things like cas latency or the timing they don't know that is why I am thinking of this one again but I really do want to upgrade my ram to at least 16gb. I came across this site while browsing some things and I am not sure if this is the correct one. Below is the link guys, please have a look and give me one last advice before I try this out as I do not want to spend money without knowing if it will work or not. Haha. Since I also don't know a seller outside of the country that I live in that ships pc parts.

hi ashue, if the shop is within your reach, i would like to suggest that you bring your laptop there, and ask the sales person to put in a pair of kingston ram (Part Number: KVR16S11/4 is 4gb stick; Part Number: KVR16S11/8 is 8gb stick). you can run hwinfo64 to verify if the ram actually work for you:

15522

although i know some of my friends have upgraded their machines with these RAMs (personally i ran 2x8gb, KVR16S11/8 to get 24gb ram before, and they're running fine). however, some of our friends here reported that they did not work for them (which i suspected there were some other reasons behind). so, to be safe, please verify that before purchase.
