If the monitor is not used for a few days and weather is cold, it always starts with numerous vertical coloured lines. Anything opened on the screen is visible but blurred. After 5 to 10 minutes, when it has warmed up, the lines disappear and it functions and appears fine. It has done this ever since new. If I simply turn off laptop overnight and on again the next moring, XG49VQ is generally fine immediately. It appears to be extended non use for few days along with low temperature causes the streaky lines to initially appear. Possibly cold soldering somewhere that rectifies itself when warm? I am not sure there is a fix per se, rather I share this experience to reassure others that it is a good monitor, but be aware of this issue. I found another writer with the same experience as mine online with this monitor.
FYI I use software called Display Fusion (DF), have split the XG49VQ screen into 3 equal parts using DF, have a separate smaller portable Lenovo screen attached via USB and it is all run off my ASUS TUF Dash 15 Laptop. Five screens in total. Works perfectly... when XG49VQ warms up that is.
