Should I get the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q?

I've been doing a research for quiet a while now, I am building a new pc with GTX970 and I am looking for a 1440p gaming monitor. Firstly I came across the PB278Q however many people said that it suffers from ghosting and it is 60hz so I wasn't really interested so then I came across the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q which looked like a great overall monitor but the reviews killed my hype. Are the problems really frequent amongst buyers?

Should I get it or just wait since there isn't any good 1440p gaming monitors out yet.

Best monitor ever! I first got 1 of them at Microcenter, and it has worked flawlessly for over 2 months now. Not a single dead pixel. Then I got 2 more from Amazon and they are also working flawlessly.
I use them for surround on 7680x1440 and am very happy with the investment I made.

I just order mine at amazon.fr 699eur. I hope to be happy with it. I'm coming from an LG 24MP55 and i hope it'll be better but i'm sure it will. Hope to have no trouble because this monitor seems to have like a lot of products bad series with Dead pixel etc. Let's cross finger and hope the best.

Do you know where i can find best setting like ICC profile etc for gaming ?

hello I got it from Amazon also for € 749 so now it went down to €699 you are lucky.

No settings, as soon as you turn it on and connect the cables, g-sync and 144 Hz is ready to go. You can of course personalize lightning modes etc.

G-sync dramatically changes the game, it's so smooth, you will never go without g-sync ever again

I only have slight flickering on loading screens when g-sync on and on 144 Hz and hope it will remain SLIGHT

I'm using a GTX 970 w4GB for my Swift. That's a 970, not a 980. I can't play everything at the highest settings, and have the frame rate be at 120 fps. I'll notice it when a lot is happening on screen. And it will vary among different games.

Overall I'm very happy with it. Especially when I consider the cost of the cards vs performance.

There has been 2 GPUs in SLI on one card in the past. If you are looking for something to fit in your one graphics slot. I don't know if someone is making that for a gtx980.

I'm running a 780Ti [Overclocked] and have been extremely happy with the one card in BF4.

I run all settings on Ultra/max except AA which I set to 2x instead of 4x.

Set to 144Hz with G-Sync enabled, BF4 is awesome.

Since my 780Ti sits between the 980 and 970 in the performance stakes - 1x980 won't sweat too much in games...!

When they say "wouldn't be able to run games on full settings @ 1440p" my immediate thought is "what games". There are a huge number of games out there, with an enormous variety of rendering and processing techniques, different levels of textures, model level of detail, and shaders. The reference design GTX 980 I have is more than enough for a large portion of my games to be run on very high settings, and some such as WoW and Path of Exile I can run well over 100hz with 4x DSR for 5120x2880 (I turn of AA and drop AF by 4x since the DSR supersampling makes up for it). There are games out there which won't manage it, and many games to come which will be even harder. so it becomes a very important part of the question.

It's the big expensive (to make) games that tend to be tough on graphics cards, because they have a lot of artists and modelers to make the high polygon models, and high resolution textures, but it can also be some of the smaller games if they use inefficient rendering pipelines.

I can say I have had little need for more power than the single GTX 980. Some games don't run at 144hz at 1440p, but I have not had an unpleasant gaming experience in any game, and G-Sync does a great job of handling anything from around 60 to 144hz. If you wanted to go with some multi monitor gaming setup, or you absolutely needed to keep everything maxed in every game for the next couple years, you could go SLI, or wait for whatever GTX 980 TI like card is released.

After having the monitor for a month I can say that is without a doubt worth the buy.

Since all the bad experience from users around the web I spend hours doing all sort of test. Vertical lines, flickering screen, inversion pixels, dead pixels, G-SYNC on / off, 60 / 120 / 144hz, visiting every page with monitor tests, etc, etc.
When all seem good I went ahead and finally started to enjoy the monitor. The 2560x1440 resolution is really sweet. But this is nothing compared to G-SYNC which is really awesome. The smoothness can only be explain seen it in action.

Colors are good. I come from a TN panel so for me was actually a step up since this panel is improved over the regulars ones. But having an IPS on the same room I can see the difference. Still, it has quick response time gray to gray of 1ms which is something IPS can’t do at this moment. And 144hz on top off all that, well, it makes this monitor one hell of a package.
If you can run games at this resolution with high fps gaming is going to an entire new level with this monitor.

A couple of things I did notice:
@144hz the video card won’t down clock and will run hotter at idle. This doesn’t happened at 120hz
If the monitor goes to sleep, when it wakes up G-SYNC is nowhere to be found. Only a system reboot will bring things back to normal.
Didn’t have to go RMA or any contact with ASUS so no idea about that.

All the rest is working as it should. And the many things this monitor offers really make it worth. We are at a point where GPU are really strong for just 1080p (But still struggles at 4k) so 2560x1440 is the sweet spot right now.

So the answer to the post and the people that come here reading if they should get this monitor, let me tell you:
What are you waiting for? Go get this monitor!!

I found that with the external power block for the monitor, pulling the power from that and reconnecting it gets G-Sync back. Some other form of power switch on the socket the Swift is plugged into would work as well. It's much faster to power cycle the monitor than the computer. This is however something that really should be patched in firmware on the monitor, or drivers on the graphics card.

When people dole out almost a grand for a monitor and then dole out even more to return the thing for rma's you see why people would be so upset, but there is more then just what appears here. This is all about the math for ASUS. Its called the Law of Averages, the math percentage games. Forget the QC at the front will just release the monitor and deal with the problem as we go. Its no surprise why aSUS has one of if not the worst QC ratings on the market. This is kinda like going to Mexico when it was a nice place to visit but just don't drink the water till you get back to the US. here is what I suggest in my opinion concerning aSUS, WAIT,WAIT,WAIT!!! at least 6 to 8 months on any release of any product from aSUS. Let the suckers and those who have to have it now folks do the work for you. Then do the Law of Averages, the % of those who have complaints to those who have good reviews and wait till the dates of the good reviews out way the bad then your %'s of getting a good monitor with the proper? QC from aSUS. Remember guinea pig's and rats etc. are the ones they do the testing on for cancer etc. before they release a drug for human use.
