Problem with my new ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q - Blurry text and bad quality overall

Hello guys,

I've been using my Swift monitor for like 1 week now. And my experience of the monitor is very good but, yesterday when i started my computer i saw some strange "color aura" around the text in Windows and all kinds of web browsers. First i thought it was my eyes, but i asked my girlfriend and she saw it aswell. I've been testing on other computers to see if it was my setup that was wrong. But they all have the same problem. And i realized that it only shows when im going at 2560x1440 @ 144hz. If im turning down the Hz to 100hz the effect is not that visable, but it's there. At 60Hz @ 1920x1080p the problem does not exist at all?

What can be my problem here? I've already tested different drivers etc..

I will try to put up an image on my problem but it's hard to get it on camera. It's almost needed to be seen with the eyes.

And now after 3 months with this monitor, i have started receiving the Blurry text/glitching while the monitor is set on 144 hz aswell, so i am currently running on 120 hz ULMB until my retailer gives me an OK on my RMA.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in newer batches?

Yeah, same here. I've had mine almost 5 months with no issues and I now get the flickering/blurred text etc. Will be going for a refund if at all possible. It sounds like RMA hell to do anything else. PC gamer (UK) gave this monitor their best award last month. Will certainly be writing to let them know about all these issues. This really does seem like a flakey monitor. After trawling the fórums I can see no firmware or driver fixes. Just looks like poor hardware.

**** **** **** My monitor just started having horizontal lines just today(Bough it day one)... They went away after I turned the computer off for a few hours. Luckily I have a 1 year protection plan with Frys so i can return it, and if need be I can exchange it. When I get home fro school I'll play a few games on it to test it it, but before I left for school I played some skyrim 4k and Toxikk at 144Hz and no horizontal lines.

My speculation is that ASUS pushed the monitor too hard. The G-Sync module must be thermal throttling after a while or the circuit degradation( water cooled monitor?).

I really worried now.... ASUS please respond!!!

This just happened to me now, tried a few times restarting. it's been flawless for months since I bought it. I did have windows updates just before hope it's something fixable and a bug with that. I never used Gsync as I have a 290x crossfire setup and was hoping I would be okay since a lot of issues where with Gsync.

It's fixed... Hopefully not just for now.

I turned off my PC unplugged the power and monitor and removed the cable from the monitor. I let it sit there for a few minutes then restarted my PC without the DP cable plugged in, then started my ROG Swift and let it run without a cable. Once I thought Windows was fully started I first plugged in the DP cable to the back into my 290x then plugged it into the monitor.

Thankfully this has fixed it, previously I tried restarting and turning off the PC for a short time but it did nothing.

I'll keep you guys informed of my progress and whether it returns. First I noticed the all the horizontal lines but then i noticed they were flickering thankfully what I tried worked.

I don't know weather it was related to the Windows update but it did show up right after it.

EDIT: My refresh rate was on 60hz when I did the above.

I restarted once again on 60hz to make sure it was ok, then after that once I knew it was fine I increased my refresh rate to 120hz and restarted and it booted up perfectly and my monitor is back to normal on 120hz, no lines and no micro flickering.

On AMD 120hz is the highest we can run out of the box without the screen flashing as the timings have been tuned for Nvidia GPU's specially for GSync.

I have heard people tweaking the sync timings and settings with a third party app to get the 144hz to work on AMD GPU's but I never tried it and now I am glad as I don't want to risk my damaging my monitor.

It just came back, I noticed it happened after waking my monitor from sleep. I tried restarting and it didn't fix it this time either but now I'm going to try what I did last time that fixed it.

Mine just started doing this (horizontal white line flickering and fuzzy/modulating text).
Had the monitor for 7 months and it's been perfect up till now.
The problem gets worse with higher refresh rates, at 60 I can't see the lines but can see graduated horizontal lines in window Title boxes and the text is still blurry.
Bought mine from PCCaseGear in Australia and they said it isn't "something we see often"... which I understand to mean it is happening...
I don't know if I should send it back as a hardware/panel fault, or if it's a problem that could be fixed with drivers/updates (Asus/nVidia/Windows)???
Anyone seen/heard any public announcement from Asus about this issue???

I had the same thing the other day. Try what I did and start at 60hz when you turn everything off.

Good luck with it.

I purchased mine in Castle Hill at JW Computers in Australia too but I purchased mine in store.

I have restarted my PC many times since and it hasn't retuned since it first appeared yesterday.
