Is there any plans to update this monitor to have better HDR brigthness? because i'm going to return mine and grab an LG TV or a similar monitor due to this issue.
although this monitor has a peak brightness of 1000 nits which is impressive, it rarely gets to that point, a majority of the scenes fall between the 30-15% ABL range and as a result, HDR looks the same as SDR.
as you can see, the "real scene" is a good metric for the average result you'll get. anything above 600 is decent. 800 and above is good. 100% is pretty much unimportant IMO and 50% is rare but still happens.
this display aside from the QD-OLED's inherent panel flaw which is raised blacks and not something ASUS can change AFAIK is pretty great otherwise, it'd be a shame to return it.
The QD-OLED just plumets down after the 1% and is basically always at around the same brightness, and I don't understand why this is necessary

Given my lack of formative background in law, I was more aiming to be effectively corrected than to assertively affirm anything. But from a layman's perspective, that's the conclusion I arrive to.
Furthermore, I've noticed the EPREL info for the PG32UCDM categorizes the monitor as a "Professional display" which, according to Article I 3. (b), is exempt from the scope of the power consumption requirements altogether.

I wouldn't get caught up in that to be honest. There has to be some compromise somewhere, and ASUS already felt the need to put a passive heatsink on to help mitigate the impact of higher draw. The APL behavior isn't something that's exclusive to the ASUS variant alone, and they've since improved it. If it could be done vastly different, one of the other vendors would have already done it. There's probably certain things vendors aren't willing to share as well. I'd also consider that there are other permutations or criteria within the regulations that can impact performance that don't directly corelate to peak output as well.

Thanks for this conversation.
I'm perfectly content with having provided my opinion on the matter of what's the underlying cause. I don't intend to delve on it further and I'm generally satisfied with the current and past state of the monitor for my use case.

TBH hipflsk, it's impossible to say anything without having proper detail and data on these panels. for all I know it could be a marketing gimmick. I'd have to talk to an engineer to get an idea of what's going on.

APL/ABL function are 100% not marketing gimmicks, and they’d be failing miserably if that was their sole intention. Removing such features would greatly increase the risk of image retention and panel longevity. There is an argument that the behaviour was too aggressive at launch for the PG32, but it has been addressed in the most recent firmware

Hi @AmeliaBuns
Seems like you're fishing with questions you probably already know the answer to regarding QD-OLED behaviour
I wasn't asking a question, I was making a request.
the EU regulations are interesting, I did not know about them. that's disappointing. Not saying this monitor is useless or trash, but many are also pleased with TN/IPS panels. People who drop an insane amount of money on monitors don't settle for that 😛 and wow, those QD_OLEDs are indeed inefficient. maybe i'll wait for a WOLED version of this monitor? Hopefully it won't suffer from the awful performance of the LG's official model as the two other asus WOLEDS i've seen are actually quite great (PG27AQdM OLED AND pg42)
at the end of the day it's about personal preference and I guess I got fooled by youtube.
I'll either wait and see if I can get used to it, or return it and wait for the technology to advance or perhaps go with a MINI-LED or an OLED TV. are there any plans for a similar model with an LG 32" 4k WOLED panel? if it performs anything like the 27" WOLED, it'll be worth the wait.

I prefer around 27" personally and currently using the PG27AQDM. Firmware has recently been updated which further improves HDR performance, too.

That's cool, but I don't think I can go back to 1440p and specially 27". even with a 32" I sometimes wish I could go bigger 😛
