PG27UQ Doesnt Turn On

Recently my PG27UQ wont turn on unless I unplug it and let it discharge for a bit, although this doesnt always work and I have to do the unplug, discharge, plug back in dance several times before the monitor will turn on. The LED indicator light will turn on, sometimes it flashes, sometimes it stays white. Its not a connection issue as the on screen display/menu will not show up on the screen either.

I've tried disabling DisplayPort/HDMI Deep Sleep and it did seem to fix the issue...but the G-Sync fan doesnt turn off so its not a viable long term solution.

Has anyone else run into this issue and was it fixable? I've had the monitor for 5 years so its definitely out of warranty, but a monitor really should last longer than that especially when it was over $1500 brand new.

I talked to Asus support via chat and they said I can RMA it for $85 + whatever it costs to fix. I saw Asus also contracts/recommends Microcenter for RMA repairs so I reached out to them to see if they could take a look at the monitor instead...and they informed me they dont really work on monitors.

I think I'm going to go through with the RMA process and at least get a quote for the repairs. I havent been able to find pricing data online, but I assume it'll be expensive. Regardless I'll post the costs so future generations can learn from my misfortune.

I have this same issue. Started happening about 2 months ago. Same replies from micro center. The Asus support rep told me I’m more than likely better off replacing the monitor given the diagnostic fees and repair cost. This was very discouraging. I’ve found the monitor will power on after apply heat to it with a blow dryer. I’ve been doing this daily hoping to stumble upon a solution as the monitor cost a pretty penny. Please let me know your repair costs!

So life got in the way of submitting my RMA request, but this morning the monitor wouldn't turn on at all so now its going back to Asus.

I have a feeling it'll be cheaper/a better investment to buy a new monitor, but we'll see what the repair cost looks like.

I recently went ahead and purchased an MSI monitor. As sad as it is to say I don’t think I’ll ever go back to Asus after this experience. MSI 321urx, it’s an absolute beast and the OLED is growing on me. I may tinker with the PG27 again, found a forum with someone talking about capacitors being bad inside of the board so I will test those first. Second attempt will be baking the g-sync board in the oven for 5 minutes on 200 degrees to try to reflow the solder. I’m thinking that baking it will be the solution in my case particularly.. given that applying heat with hair dryer gets the thing to turn on. Feel free to try blow dryer and let me know if you can get it to turn on! Send heat through it right where you plug in your DisplayPort. You’ll see an exhaust where the air runs through.

The funny thing is. My PG27UQ has lots of random bugs and problems. I will list some of them:

  1. Monitor lights up unevenly. - Requires cold boot, power off from outlet for 20-30 seconds.
  2. Backlight zones are going crazy. - Requires
  3. Every time monitor powers up, within 5-10 minutes it goes crazy doing stpd things, like flashingm going crazy or artifacting,, or even turning off. Fixes after several attempts to tun on and turn off. Or sometimes cold boot.
  4. Sometimes on turning on from cold boot, monitor goes into Technical Maitenance mode, where pressing menu button goes into monitor fan testing, error testing, checking fan speed etc, and also set the monitor to default settings. Soluton - Requires cold boot.
  5. Windows 11 no logner has HDR certificate.
I think this messes up Windows HDR presets, because on windows 10 colors on SDR games with HDR turned on looked better.
  6. Some programs forces monitor into 60Hz when using lower than 4k resolution.

I've also tried to chang cable from 1.4 DP to DP 2.1(DP 80 certified) cable. Can't recall if anything changed.

I had the Technical Maintenance mode issue, that was annoying. Sometimes it would turn on and just be dim (evenly lit, just dim all over). Had to cycle power to resolve both issues.

Monitor arrived as Asus this morning, I had to pay FedEx $43 to package it for me since I didn't have a box that would fit it. So far I'm out $128, now to see how much Asus is going to charge me to fix it...

Just received a quote for the repairs, $1,033.84 + tax and ewaste disposal fee for a repair cost of $1,144.81. That doesn't include the return shipping I'd need to pay after paying the repair fee (or the cost of the RMA ticket + packaging the monitor to ship to Asus).

No explanation of the issue on the quote which is annoying.

Hard pass, I'm going to look for another monitor and will probably avoid Asus in the future.
