PG278QR Colour banding

Dredj

Had this monitor since Black Friday 2018 and I'm really struggling to love it due to colour banding when output dynamic range is set to full, even when set to limited there is banding but no way near as severe but then I lose colour quality. With output to Full I get terrible artifacts in dark colours, when Limited it goes away. My experience on PC is the same when connected with DP and HDMI.

I've read that it's just a fact with the AUO panels used and even Dell and Acer have the same issue, though apparently newer Dell S2716DG revisions don't have the issue. I've also read it's an nvidia problem for having no dithering support in their drivers.

With that in mind about nvidia possibly being the cause I hooked up my PS4 to the monitor, which has a Radeon based GPU and there I get the reverse. Limited looks like my PC when set to Full and Full looks way better than Limited or Full on my PC.

I really don't know if I got a dodgy panel and should send it back to Amazon and try another because I fear I'd get the same result, and it that case I simply do not want this AUO panel type for my monitor but then what other options are there for 144Hz 1440p GSYNC?

Edit notes: Upon further testing on the PS4 the gamma is far to dark when set to Full and is crushing blacks. So not good. And brings me back to considering the monitor is the problem.
