PG278Q issues: does not turn on on first power-on + newest GPU drivers (+-solutions)

Hi,
So far I ran into like 3 issues with this monitor:
1. After long power-off (e.g. night), if I turn my PC, monitor does not turn on (at some point it displays there is "no signal" message, but stays black), after system has loaded - you can unplug-plug back monitor, could hear windows beeping (like they found new device, etc.) - but still no visual. If I would turn off PC and then turn on it - display would work ok.
2. After updating to NVidia drivers newer than the one in CD-disc (340.52), I get artifacts appearing time at a time (quite annoying), like monitor is trying to switch into some different mode... and instantly switched back to old one.
3. Monitor is really insane bright (before that I had monitor with very good colors, so this one is just too bright, and monitor controls, sadly do not allow anything good about it)

Some solutions I found:
1. Before turning on PC, I switch monitors power off, and then back on, I wait till it displays "no signal" message, at this moment turn on PC - monitor will always work. So I believe long sleep/stand by mode is working incorrectly...
2. New drivers - sometimes they stop making issues if I turn off and turn on PC (basically load windows and restart), not sure about it (if it really helps), but basically I am forced to downgrade drivers back to CD version (340.52). I wish Asus would work more closely with NVidia, it's really GPU drivers issue...
3. Well colors... in NVidia control panel there is "adjust desktop color settings" - set gamma to 0.78-0.8 - and then things with colors are much better. Except, that sometimes(allways?) after PC boots - gamma settings is not applied, till I launch a game in full screen (that uses DX), after exiting game gamma setting is applied correctly. Probably NVidia issue, but... not cool.

relative pc parameters:
* Win 8.1-64bit
* NVidia GTX 690
* (and stuck on drivers version 340.52)

If anyone was able to overcome such issues, or has ideas, please write 🙂

Started having random issues, when monitor & PC is off.
With monitor turned off with the power button at the rear it would randomly keep turning itself back on & display the ASUS logo then go back to sleep.
Then keep repeating approx once an hour of more.

I also previously had an issue that sorted itself of a black screen at power on, though it was the display cable.
Anyway just ordered an ASUS laptop original charger 19V 6.32A, 120W with 5.5x2.5mm plug, the 4.74amp ones where out of stock.
Will see how it goes.

NEW power supply arrived 24 hours ago, issue of monitor turning on after being shut down from the rear switch have gone along with then turning on from sleep state. This is all while the PC is shut down. The power supply I removed was quite hot.

I'm using a Manhattan Slim 95W Notebook Power Adapter and it works fine, 19.47v, i got my replacement asus adaptor today but it reads 20.01v, can someone measure their working ones voltage with multimeter, it should be 19-19.2v? Should i rma the new one again since the voltage is too high?

God Dammit!! That's me just coming up to a year on owning this monitor and now I'm getting no life on the first boot. Started yesterday morning with system starting up fine but with a dead screen, on unplugging then plugging back in monitor kicked in and started up but has happened a couple of times now. I knew straight away what it was because of the posts here, will read through this thread but looks like the power blocks on it's way out but good to know a Notebook Power adaptor does the trick.

At least this garbage power block is external!

Hi! I faced the same problem with the screen not turning on after restart and wake up from sleep mode until I've updated the firmware of my Asus GTX970. Now, all problems are gone. The readme notes of the Asus GTX970 firmware also indicates that it fixes problems with certain screens.

Thanks for this info and update!

I had similar problem with PG278Q. after using it's own adapter (default in box one) for a year, it was starting to power monitor on from standby during night. i checked the output voltage and it was 19.66, which is far more than a 19V adapter. then i order new one (19V,4.74A,2.5mm)from local vendor that was look like inbox adapter from outside with ASUS logo but without any information behind it! new adapter has 19.02 output and after one month of using it, i can confirm problem is solved for now.

Well, I owed this monitor for I think 7 years before this started happening. But same exact problem, power supply starting giving out. Replacing it fixed the issue.
