PG278Q issues: does not turn on on first power-on + newest GPU drivers (+-solutions)

Hi,
So far I ran into like 3 issues with this monitor:
1. After long power-off (e.g. night), if I turn my PC, monitor does not turn on (at some point it displays there is "no signal" message, but stays black), after system has loaded - you can unplug-plug back monitor, could hear windows beeping (like they found new device, etc.) - but still no visual. If I would turn off PC and then turn on it - display would work ok.
2. After updating to NVidia drivers newer than the one in CD-disc (340.52), I get artifacts appearing time at a time (quite annoying), like monitor is trying to switch into some different mode... and instantly switched back to old one.
3. Monitor is really insane bright (before that I had monitor with very good colors, so this one is just too bright, and monitor controls, sadly do not allow anything good about it)

Some solutions I found:
1. Before turning on PC, I switch monitors power off, and then back on, I wait till it displays "no signal" message, at this moment turn on PC - monitor will always work. So I believe long sleep/stand by mode is working incorrectly...
2. New drivers - sometimes they stop making issues if I turn off and turn on PC (basically load windows and restart), not sure about it (if it really helps), but basically I am forced to downgrade drivers back to CD version (340.52). I wish Asus would work more closely with NVidia, it's really GPU drivers issue...
3. Well colors... in NVidia control panel there is "adjust desktop color settings" - set gamma to 0.78-0.8 - and then things with colors are much better. Except, that sometimes(allways?) after PC boots - gamma settings is not applied, till I launch a game in full screen (that uses DX), after exiting game gamma setting is applied correctly. Probably NVidia issue, but... not cool.

relative pc parameters:
* Win 8.1-64bit
* NVidia GTX 690
* (and stuck on drivers version 340.52)

If anyone was able to overcome such issues, or has ideas, please write 🙂

Had the same issue as OP. I decided to purchase a power supply off ebay for $20 instead of dealing with the crappy ASUS rma process and not having my monitor for weeks. New power supply is working fine (I've had it for a day).

I will never buy another ASUS product again. Bad QA and customer service is a terrible combination.

I am having same issue. Monitor often going off in Standby, and needing to be unplugged and plugged back in to restore power. Not good enough ASUS - this was a thousand dollar monitor! And the response from an ASUS rep in this thread is to say "too bad, no warranty help" is not encouraging.

Confirmed here as well. It's something strange with the power supply, disconnecting it from the monitor will not be enough. You need to psychically remove the power brick from the wall then reconnect it and the monitor will work.
Thank god I found this problem now and not later as I was about to order 2 more swifts.

Can someone confirm that the monitor will work if you get a new PSU ?

Hiwaf yeah I got a new power supply and I no longer have to unplug the power supply to turn the monitor on. Your test with disconnecting the power supply from the monitor but not the wall proves that it is the power supply that is the problem. You could try get it replaced with ASUS but the rep that I talked to insisted on me bringing my whole monitor in. Not worth it. Rather spend $20 on a new one. My new power supply specs are a little different to the stock one but work:

Input 100-240V~2.0A 50/60Hz
Output 19V 4.74A

Can anyone confirm if this is only on 240V or both 110/240V supplies? I have 240V power myself.

anju: Thanks for the reply. I will call Asus support on Monday and ask if they can send me a replacement cable but I doubt I'll have any more luck than you. Needless to say I am disappointed with Asus. By now they should have figured out that it is a recurring problem (I have found many other threads describing the same fault) and offer customers that have a faulty power supply a new one like many other companies have done in the past.

Update: Asus will not RMA the power supply instead I will have to send in the monitor and got told that if they do not find anything wrong with it they would charge me for the RMA. That being said I know now for a fact that there is nothing wrong with the monitor. It is the power supply!

Needless to say I am disappointed with Asus for not being able to help me out and that I will never buy another Asus ROG product again.

So, does replacing the power supply fix the problem? My first Swift would power on the backlight, but only display a black screen after sitting turned off for a long period of time, like overnight. Rebooting the computer fixes the problem, but is a very incontinent and annoying solution. I have since received my second Swift monitor and it is having the same problem. Is it possible that I got two bad power supplies? Should I buy a "genuine ASUS replacement" or a generic one?

For anyone curious, this is why I RMAed my first Swift monitor. Check out the videos too:

I have had the second Swift monitor for less than 6 hours and it has already flickered a few times-- nowhere near as bad as the first Swift... yet.

MrCoder- I think I am having the same issue as you. In response to your post, On the first Swift I used the hub for charging my phone. So far, I have not plugged anything into the hub on the second Swift and it has the same problem as the first. I doubt using the USB hub caused the problem.

I don't know if the flickering is related in any way to not powering on after being turned off for a long time. I figured it was probably worth mentioning it, just in case.

Edit: SPEAK OF THE DEVIL!!! Just moments after making this post the second Swift flashed a black screen, then came back blurry. Luckily, restarting the computer restored the picture to normal.

So after playing hell at Asus support and not getting anywhere I created an RMA directly. Within 24 hours I got a call to say a new power supply would be shipped out to me on Monday. I now have the new power supply and it has a completely different plug on the monitor end (Its not bent) and a completely different model number but the same voltage ratings!
Working fine now but I have yet to leave my monitor to go in to standby.

The new model number is "EXA1202YH", the old one was "ADP-90YB B", here is a pic of old v.s. new...

Will update with (hopefully) good news in the morning when I boot my PC up from standby.

Edit : Also does not seem to get anywhere near as hot as the old one.

Lucky you! I've waited 62 days with ASUS telling me a PSU was on its way and today I receive a USED ADP-90YD B! Great I wonder how long this one will last?

At least the Power Cord was brand new.
