PD278QR DisplayPort died(?)

Hi !

My ROG Swift PG278QR somehow only shows "Display Port: No Input" since Saturday morning. Before it was running fine since July. HDMI Input is working still fine. The Problem with the DP occurs in POST/BOOT as well, so i think it is not Driver related.

What i tried so far:
- Unplug/Power off everything. Did this a couple of times (up to 30min) because i read that a couple of DP related issues can be solved by this. -> Doesnt help
- Tried all the DP Ports of my 1080Ti -> Doesnt help
- Plugged in another monitor via the DP of my graphics card -> Works (and somehow rules out a problem with my rig, right?)
- Used the PG278QR via HDMI -> Works
- Used the PG via HDMI + another monitor via DP -> Works
- Used another monitor via HDMI (works ofc) and added the PG via DP -> Even the monitor connected via HDMI shows a black screen, showing only the mouse curser, after plugging in the PG over DP.
- "Reset all" via OSD of the PG278QR -> Doesnt help
- DDUed and reinstalled the NVidia driver -> Doesnt help (but i thin a driver related issue is ruled out anyhow, due to the DP not working in Post/Boot as well)

In the coming days i will try out the PG in my office as well, but so far i assume that die DP module of my PG somehow died.
Any advice on the issue? What is the best way to handle this situation? I bought the screen via Amazon (Germany).

My rig:
i7-3930K on RIVF, EVGA 1080Ti FTW3, Win 7

Cheers

Are you using the DP cable that came with the monitor? They're not that great. Buy a high-rated cable as a first step. Also, make sure your USB drivers are all up to date.

Have you tried using another DP cable?

Hello again,

thanks for your help! Problem is solved, hopefully.

As i said before, i moved the Screen to my office and tried it with different other PCs and cables. It turned out, that the monitor was indeed working with the DP, but only with a small subset of all tried cables. Therefore, i ordered a premium DP cable (a 20€ Lindy Chroma, i dont know if this is availible outside the EU) and the PG278QR is working again via DP with my rig.

However, the original cable still does NOT work anymore with the monitor it was shipped with. Are cables degrading with time, or is the quality of the shipped cable just that borderline by design?

Cheers

Hello once more!

Although the problem is solved, i wanted to share the end of the story. Maybe it is some kind of helpful for others as well.

After identifying the DP cable as the source of all trouble i contacted the ASUS support for a replacement of the defective one. The Asus employee agreed in the perception, that such problems, caused by cheap quality accessories to an otherwise premium product, are bad for the customer as well as the company. However, he also made clear that ASUS itself grants no sort of (implied) warranty for the supplied cables, which by law is ok (talking about EU/Germany).

In my country we have some other kind of (express) warranty from the retailer (not the manufacturor) that has to be granted for two years in all cases. So i contacted Amazon in that matter, described my experience with the ASUS support, and they offered me three possibilities:

- Send back everything and get a refund
- Send back everything and get a new monitor
- Refunding of 10% of the initial cost (~65€). So some sort of retroactive discount.

Because i'm very happy with the monitor itself, and didnt want to go through some kind of lotterey with display quality, i agreed to the latter.

tl;dr: Asus support couldn't help and can be considered subpar. Amazon support is delightful.
