I can now report that there is a KVM switch that works with the PG278Q: it is the Lindy KVM Switch Pro USB:
https://www.lindy.co.uk/kvm-c6/2-port-kvm-switch-pro-usb-2-0-displayport-1-2-with-ttu-p10069This switch supports PG278Q to output from my desktop PC at 2560x1440@144Hz (under Windows 10, 8.1, 7 & Linux Mint 18.3 - all 64-bit); and my tricky (compatibility-wise; due to "integrated" Intel/ nVidia K1100M dual-source graphics output) docked DELL M4800 Precision Pro laptop at 2560x1440@85Hz (both Windows 10 & Linux Mint 18.1). There appear to be no compatibility issues arising from the KVM switch itself.
The latest Linux Mint distro to which I upgraded a couple of days ago (18.3 "Sylvia") has lost support for the PG278Q under the Intel/K1100M régime; which therefore currently only displays at 1024x768@60Hz; really annoying for a 27" 2560 x 1440@144Hz capable monitor!! But that's a separate issue which the Linux developers will doubtless shortly address:cool::cool::cool:
