Dealbreaker (+an easy firmware fix!)

LGR
Level 7

Hello everybody,

My friend and I are looking to buy a new 32" full-glossy OLED monitor, but the lack of true crosshair customization is a dealbreaker for us and, I’m sure, many others. Competitors have offered fully customizable on-screen crosshairs for years.

For example, my soon-to-be 10 yo Gigabyte monitor allows me to draw or upload custom crosshairs of any shape, color, and size, including shifting their position anywhere on the screen.

Many modern games use non-centered or over-the-shoulder aiming, so a fixed center reticle is often misaligned with actual aim, making your implementation effectively useless compared to competitors.

Games like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and dozens of other similar titles use off-center aiming, meaning I cannot use your built-in crosshair feature there.

As you might already know, static, high-contrast HUD elements also increase the risk of burn-in, including crosshairs. For gamers who use an on-screen crosshair for long sessions, a single bright dot or single-color static shape accelerates uneven pixel wear.

Your current implementation does not allow selecting a crosshair outside the center area, forcing more wear and causing long-term warranty issues.

We urge ASUS to implement full crosshair customization, including shape, color, size, and X/Y position, to remain competitive and avoid losing customers. I’m sure it is possible to fix via a software or firmware update, and I hope ASUS will listen. It is only a matter of time before other manufacturers produce glossy displays with customizable crosshairs, meaning you risk cutting yourself out of the market and losing potential customers if you ignore this easy to implement fix/feature.

In fact, I will also write to Gigabyte to let them know about our willingness to buy at least two of their 32" full-glossy OLED monitors.

The ball is now in your court, ASUS. Please listen to your customers, improve the product, and reduce the chances of warranty returns for advanced users who would rather maintain their panels in good condition than bother you with replacements.
