Hi, today I received my first ever Gsync monitor was excited. I hooked it up and straight away I noticed the text was quite blurry (only the black text/fonts, desktop fonts remain sharp) and figured it was because I was switching from an IPS monitor. I toyed with the turbo switch to change the refresh rate up from 60 to 120 to 144hz, that's operation in itself was quite clumbersome, I thought I would just press it once to show and again to shift it to the next refresh rate, however it is very hit and miss.
When the rate did eventually change I noticed some flickering around the screen, especially visible on the grey bars on the NVidia settings window. I toyed some more enabling/disabling gsync and SLI and the issue remained. It seems to have calmed down now, and is only visible in around 50% of situations. It persists through gsync on and off and I have tried 3 sets of drivers. The only time the flickering is 100% not present is if I enable ULMB.
Also gsync is permanently engaged unless I disable it in the driver, even on the desktop, I was under the impression the LED would be white and gsync disabled until a game was loaded up, however it remains red (and gsync mode is on in the screens OSD).

Below is a link to my desktop showing the flickering:

What refresh rate was it on when you recorded the video? The effect is related to refreshing the screen i.e. pixel inversion. At 24 hz this is very palpable, though at 120-144 hz it should not be very noticeable except as a green line on the trailing edge of objects moving across a grey background (or vice versa): this is related to overshoot on grey-to-grey transitions inherent to LCD panel technology and the current crop of 8-bit TN panels especially. Refer to testufo.com for some interactive applets that can show you more details.

If this flickering continues to occur at 120-144 hz, or even 60 hz, I would think about returning this monitor to your retailer for an express replacement (presuming you are still within the window for return or replacement on your purchase), so as to ensure that you receive a brand-new monitor. The blurry text is also a bad sign: this should not happen and is actually symptomatic of a bad G-sync module, from what we on this forum can tell.

ULMB cuts on/off the backlight so in effect you are seeing a "snapshot" of the panel with every refresh. This reduces motion blur related to screen persistence and would also reduce the flickering effect as it happens within the period of a monitor refresh i.e. (1/refresh rate). You are seeing the image before the panel inverts the voltage over the pixels - pixel inversion.

The G-sync light is nothing to worry about. That seems to be a driver-related issue and/or one with the firmware. In any case, it does not affect usage of the display or your desktop (note that you can change the settings for G-sync further within the driver for use with windowed-mode applications as well, though this isn't really related).

So you may want to exchange your current monitor for a new one, if you can. If you are dealing with the ASUS warranty, they will send you a working monitor that will (probably) be refurbished.

Edit: Upon seeing your second video on your Vimeo account, the monitor seems to be very likely defective. Get a new one from the shop you purchased this one from as soon as possible.

Hi thanks for the response. I tried a new cable today as people have said that can cause these issues, but alas it didn't help. I have a replacement arranged with Scan.co.uk for Monday so I should have a replacement by the following week.
