Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out as a frustrated owner of the ASUS ROG Swift PG34WCDM. While I appreciate the premium specs and design of this OLED monitor, I’m experiencing severe issues with HDR performance that are diminishing its value and usability.
My Issues:
- Inconsistent HDR Brightness: Whether gaming or watching HDR content, the highlights often appear dim or washed out, especially in darker scenes.
- Color Banding & Compression: Even with 10-bit output enabled, I’m noticing clear banding in gradients and skies—something I don’t see with HDR off.
- Auto HDR (Windows 11) creates more problems than it solves. In some games, it introduces lag or unstable brightness fluctuations.
- Poor tone-mapping: Compared to other OLED panels I’ve used, this display crushes blacks and clips highlights, making HDR content look unnatural.
- Firmware Up-to-Date: I’m on the latest firmware (as of July 2025) and using an RTX 4090 with a high-quality DP cable. The issue persists across multiple HDR titles and media.
What I’ve Tried:
- Factory reset of the monitor
- Disabling/enabling HDR in both Windows and individual apps
- Using both DisplayPort and HDMI
- Testing with multiple systems and GPU drivers
Expectations:
This is marketed as a premium HDR OLED display, and I believe users deserve transparency and support on issues like these. At this price point, I expect proper HDR tone-mapping, stability, and optimization.
Could ASUS please acknowledge:
- Are you aware of these HDR-related issues on the PG34WCDM?
- Is a firmware update in the works to address them?
- Any recommended settings or workarounds from the support team?
Thanks in advance. I’m happy to provide more details, screenshots, or logs if needed. Really hope ASUS takes this seriously—it’s a fantastic panel in SDR, but HDR is currently not up to the mark.
