Your experience thus far with your Asus G-Series Notebook

As the title says, I am curious how your experiences with your notebooks have been. It could be as simple as a one-word summary. I want to know how you feel about your notebook and why. What changes would you make and how would you rank it?

To start, I would say my experience has been a roller-coaster with the notebook. I bought it with very high expectations (probably too high), and that lead to a tad bit of disappointment on my end when my notebook couldn't put out the performance I feel like I paid for. I often worry if there is just something I'm missing, or that I didn't do that could be holding my computer back, so you could say I am a tad bit paranoid. The upside of said roller-coaster has been that it lead me to a new genre of gaming, and a new hobby of my own. I have been playing around on pcpartpicker.com trying to make the best desktop I can for a relatively affordable price. I have even tried to overclock my GPU (nVidia GTX 670m 3gb), I found that I am just not experienced enough to handle this. I feel like my computer isn't working to its full potential, and I want to know how to unlock, I am just unable to figure out how. What changes to your notebook have you made? What have you noticed had worked? What hasn't worked?

Anyways, my experience has been mostly enjoyable, but also frustrating at moments. My biggest complaint: I feel like I paid for more than I received. My favorite part: it opened up an entire new world for me, as corny as that sounds.

Just one more caveat - its not entirely manufacturers fault and the nature of putting gaming grade components into a small machine....Windows itself as well as Intel chips have not exactly been friendly to laptop gaming. This is why there are always throttling issues and such, and you'll often see yourself losing frames yet your gpu is only at like 75%, in gpu-limited games. Even the highest end mobile CPU and GPU's are susceptible to all kinds of issues stemming from them being built for saving power from the ground up.

I like everything about my G75. With the exception of tech support and repair. I've had 2 RMA The first one was originally the right speaker did not work at all. I RMA it for repair. I worked it with cl-mason got a great turn around time 5 working days. Great right! Not so they didn't fix the dang speaker.

2nd RMA a few months later failure of track pad, keyboard etc. I worked with cl-albert this one took a while as the issue didn't duplicate on arrival at the California repair station. In the end my MB, TP, KB, right speaker and cables were all changed out. I got my NB back in about 10 working days. I was very pleased this time the extra time was needed my NB now has worked flawlessly for a couple of months.

I was shocked by the first RMA this was the first time in many years that I had sent a NB in for repairs and had it sent back with the same issue. The only other time that had happen was way back in the 90's My very first NB A Sager DX2 66 I don't remember the model but it came with DOS loaded and a Floppy disk for DOS 6.2 and another for Windows. That one went through 3 MB changes before I demanded my money back.

I get a new NB every 3 years usually. I buy top of the line NB as reliability is crucial I worked remotely on Ships at sea for weeks at a time.

I had some of the issues in the beginning USB 3.0 not working, Subwoofer problem etc. Thanks to this Forum all that was sorted out and solve. I have to say this is the very best forum there seems to an abundance of very sharp people here to remind you of what you forgot. What you need to know. And help you figure out things. I love my G75
All that said I still really like this NB. I would purchase again. I would just get it through one of the vendors that modify and test before shipping. The extra money would be worth it to me to get a fully tested ready to run NB

Edit 2013-07-13: Well last night I started having problems with my" J " key the cap seem to be falling off. I was able to reattached for the time being. This keyboard was put in a couple of months ago"2013-05-13", looks like the 3rd RMA in my first year is lurking here.

I'm diffently a fan of the G75 as well - Haven't had any bad experience with this so far.

However, I will cheat on my laptop if GTA5 is released for PS4 😄 But I think I'll stick to this when it comes to BF4.

Even though I don't post very much, I am indeed a daily lurker.

Received my Asus G 75VW-NH17 from Newegg last November and it has been powering away since. Since November I have installed Corsair Force 3 240gb, Momentus XT 500gb, extra 4gb of ram, and slight OC to the GPU for Starcraft 😉

This forum has help me considerably on any prior bugs known and future bugs that may occur and every one is so god damn friendly. It's sickening. 😛

My brick recently went out yesterday, RMA being sent in later this week. Curious to see how long it will take to receive a working one.

Well to add, I definitely agree that the community around here is amazing. I'm not sure you could be lucky enough to say anywhere else that most responses you get feel like they were from mature persons. Anyways, I guess I can't say that I am disappointed with my laptop, that wouldn't be fair. This laptop is a beast, my friends "awww" over the fact that I can get 300 fps on Minecraft when we do LAN parties. (Unfortunately, most my friends are balls deep in Mac products...). And I can play most newer games on high settings, but it's my thirst for the best of the best. I feel like this laptop was a great starting point for me in computer gaming. I leave for college in less than a year, and having a desktop just wouldn't be a smart idea, considering I wouldn't be permanently residing anywhere for the next few years. So this notebook is a great fit for me. I am excited to hold on to this laptop for years to come, because I think it is moderately "time-proof". As I said, this notebook was a catalyst for me. I now want to build the best desktop I with the money I have, even though I should probably hold on to it...I have always been a fan of computers, I am even going to major in "Computer Science" in college.

I feel like I am jumping around in these forums, I can never keep on topic...ANYWAYS! I would love to see a notebook that is more upgradeable, I wish I could just toss in a new GPU, but it's not really worth the time, money, or energy.

God honest truth,

Nothing in this lifetime will ever give us a reason as to why we do the things we do, to becoming what and who we really are meant to be. We discover this all on our own. Life is knowing what to get involved in, and how far we are willing to go to get it; not allowing opportunities to pass us by. It's why we are never really satisfied with anything for a period longer than a moment is meant for. It's without actions or consequences that the statements of what is right or wrong cease to exist. What we believe is nothing more than being aware of what we perceive as truth; Breathing but not gasping...hearing but not listening. Portraying the essence of soul.

To know our faults is to know ourselves. We move because the world moves. It's knowing where we stand, and what ground we stand on. Assumptions, lying and greed. We live by what destroys us because we fall apart when everything around us remains together.

As if some light inside us went out and we soak in the darkness until we see into it. It's knowing your true potential and using it. When no one can stop you, is when you finally know where you're going.

Learning of acceptance.

My G75VX arrived today. To be honest, my expectations aren't very high to start with. My previous laptop was a HP DV7T-4000CTO, I5 dual core with an ATI 5650HD video card. It was hot, slow but a workhorse for more than two years (even survived a motorcycle crash while strapped to my back). This G75 is the nemesis to the pseudo all-in-one laptops that pose on Dell/Lenovo/HP websites. It is svelte, albeit very heavy, powerful and cool. While it isn't a Sager or MSI with a SLI'd setup, it also isn't going to cost as much as a decent car either. What it is, however, is a very delicate balance between what is the best and what most of us can reasonably afford.

I am, as of six hours into ownership, very pleased with this laptop. My left hand isn't on fire. The display is awesome (went with a custom glossy) and the games I like to play fly on it while my productivity suite doesn't give me any grief. As the days turn to weeks and those to months I will report back. As it stands, this is a great piece of hardware. The folks at Xotic and ASUS should be proud.

my g75vw with the 670m is pretty cool most games work on medium-high settings( so that there are no lag skipes or whatever)... have/had a heating problem of the GPU and sadly support its bad... imo next gaming pc it wont be a laptop anymore for me... i`d rhather go for a desktop with the 1500euro invested in this laptop could of build a way more better desktop with maybe less issues then a laptop( like all the problems heat can do to it or the throtteling of CPU GPU so it saves power)

what i still dont understand is why not all the 3gb memory of the GPU are not used when play`n games... even dow GPU load is under 99% maybe some one can clear that for me...

for me, the experience has been great. till now, no problems and no problems with audio too. only concern for me is that after heavy gaming, the gpu temp is around 87 deg C. but i cant rma since i bought it from US and i live in India. but i can adjust with that. 🙂

It sounds like you need some new thermal paste on your GPU/CPU - You should be able to find a few guides here on the forum, that explains how to do it, otherwise youtube would be a great place to look 🙂

It shouldn't go that high, even tho 90 is the MAX temp. I'd still say you should repaste it (and ofc check the fan filters, you might want to clean them as well)
