Worth buying G750JX?

Is it worth buying the g750jx or will there be a new model in some weeks/months?

from all the ASUS laptops I've owned, the G750JX is the most disappointing. Horrible driver support especially the VGA drivers and the latest nVIDIA Drivers will cause troubles with the 3D version since ASUS used some propriety crap in it

Audio is very bad, the subwoofer barely makes any bass as compared to the old G73 and G74

I'm on a G750JX myself. The speakers are good.. you aren't expecting dolby surround on it. The sound produced through the software sounds great on my sound system no matter what game I play.

I've not tried VGA.

Latest NVidia to me seems fine, I've not played 3D yet.. but who would anyhow.. it's not proper 3D and it hurts your eyes after a while anyway.. it's just a fun experience.

The laptop in my experience is great.. the only downside is getting used to the keyboard, really. Maybe it's just me since I've not used a Chiclet board ever, and also the webcam isn't that great.. but come on as long as the person can see you, it's fine really.

Just make sure you don't pay more than 2,000 USD for yours. Here in Aus, it costs 2,600, but I was lucky that a whopping 30% discount came around the corner. Much better than an MSI GT70 2OC in my opinion.

The other slight downside I really see is she's a big girl (Not 17.4 inch, more like 19.7.) and needs a custom carry case, or a makeshift one, possibly even a briefcase.. and the edges around the case where your wrist rests needs to be rounded a little. Wear will get it down don't worry. Screen a little oily from matte, but that's something you can easily get used to.

I have yet to run into any other complication, really.. maybe my standards are a little lower than others.

yeah never get the matte screen. ASUS has the most horrible matte screens ever that are very grainy and make the screen look as if someone spilled grease on it.

My previous G75VW was matte and I learned my lesson after looking at that fugly screen for a year. Now I have the 3D/Glossy screen it's awesome

Ignore the figgly wigglers (you know who you are 🙂 ) , that can't sit still long enough to focus on their content, and have to nit pick the darnedest things about these laptops. If you have used matte screens before, you will not have a problem with these, they are great.

I have had all 3 G750's, JW/JX/JH and none of them had hardware problems, and none of them were anything less that stellar performers.

The JW/JX Chi Mei screen was great after setting the refresh to 100hz, the Windows desktop to 100%, and uninstalling Asus Splendid - it exaggerates the colors - over-saturating them.

The JH AUO screen is even better, the matte coating is less obvious, and the brightness is amazingly high for outside use - I turn it down to 75% indoors, or less in darker rooms. It syncs at 70hz, and also looks great at default settings.

You can find content that looks bad on any screen, games with rendering artifacts that show up more or less different on different lcd masks (display patterns), but in normal use - which is my use, none of my games, blu-rays, or streaming content look anything less than totally impressive.

No laptop screen is going to look as good as a high end external monitor, but you wouldn't want the extra weight and battery usage by a screen like that on a laptop.

As far as Windows support, some vendors do better, many do worse, Asus is slow to release new drivers but if you are knowledgeable and track new Asus motherboard/laptop/device releases, you can find the newest drivers pretty easily.

Plus there are lots of helpful people here on the forums (you know who you are 🙂 ), and I haven't found a better support forum for laptops in a long time.

As far as new laptops replacing these models, no one except Asus knows 🙂

I usually see new laptops coming out from CES announcements starting in May/June. I waited for my G750JH for 4 months past the original August 8th US release date.

You could always pick up a JX, and upgrade later. 🙂

All except the CPU which is soldered on. ( Though you wouldn't even need to replace a Haswell for a good 6 years anyway. )

It's a great laptop and it's worth every penny. Just don't pay more than 2,000 for it. Try get it lower or wait for a sale.

Darnassus, $2000 for which model? That is too much for a JX, and a couple hundred too low for a JH

Your post answers itself. It's the second one from the top. The price is slashed down from $1,999 down to 1,749.99.

Remember I'm in Aus, so everything is inflated by a good 20-30%.

I've been pretty pleased with my JX.

Only major issue i've had is the somewhat flakey trackpad..but I use a wired Razer Naga so it makes that issue moot.

You don't get screen flicker on 60hz? Or flimsy touchpad keys?
