Windows 8 Core x64 Retail/RTM iso for reinstalling

If a system that came with an OEM copy of Windows 8 had a hard drive failure, or you decided to change your disc drive and you need to reinstall Windows, it may be easier to do than you think.

Windows 8 uses the new SLIC 3.0 standard for OEMs to preinstall system with Windows 8.

With the old SLIC 2.0 which used the master serial system, once you got our hands on a OEM Windows install disc, it would automagically work on any other PC made by that OEM.

The SLIC 3.0 gets rid of the Master Serial and instead, takes the serial that use to come on your Genuine Windows sticker, and embeds it in your motherboards firmware.

The upside, you can now use any Windows 8 install disc (retail or RTM) to reinstall windows. Just be sure to use the disc with the version of Win 8 that came with your system (Win 8 Core x86/x64 or Win 8 Pro x86/x64)

Here is a post on the digital life forums providing torrents to download the official ISOs

Download, put them on a DVD/USB then boot and follow along. At no point will it ask your for a serial (if it does, you used the wrong ISO). It will automatically read it off the motherboard and enter it for you.

Once installation is complete, check the system properties under the activation status. The last 5 digits of the windows serial displayed will be yours.

Once you connect to the internet, it will automatically activate.

PS: Remember to use a program like Magic Jellybean KeyFinder to locate and backup your Windows 8 Serial in case you ever need it.

read here. your recovered key should be able to retrieve w8 ISO.

edit: i have also tested the program (Magic Jellybean KeyFinder) linked by the OP above. it worked to reveal the serial number too.

Hey rewb, thanks for the post but the windows 8 iso download tool only works for Win 8 Pro Serials. NOT the Win 8 Core serials

ah.. very sorry about that 😕

if that's the case i guess the only choice is to take the risk and to get it from elsewhere.

No need for serial key win8 will auto activate. Ive done this changing to new ssd. I also got my win8 iso from torrent.

That's good to know. Before I do anything, which Windows 8 should I be downloading from here?

I also downloaded all the drivers for my laptop, except Wireless and Bluetooth because there's 3 drivers for both.

Anyone mind helping me in which order I should install these drivers? I'm not sure if I need all of these, but I just downloaded them just incase.

check your device manager for bluetooth and wifi; get the respective hardware id and post it here.

as for the orders of driver install, i always starts with intel base drivers first, then ASUS, then the others.
1. intel chipset; intel irst; intel mei;
2. gpu (nvidia);
3. network/connectivity (lan, wifi, bluetooth);
4. atkpackage; this one is important to activate the keyboard back light;
5. touchpad;
6. card reader.

normally once the above are installed, everything will work fine with my laptop.

based on what you've posted, you have the atheros card; not azurewave/broadcom, not intel.

so just grab:
1. wifi - Atheros Wireless Lan Driver and Application Version V10.0.0.205
2. bt - Atheros BlueTooth driver Version V8.0.0.210

the rest you can just leave them.

Last thing I need to know is which ISO should I get from that site OP provided? I got Windows 8 that came with the laptop.

Get the 3rd one,

"Windows 8 RTM English, 64-bit (x64)
Size: 3.33 GB SHA-1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4
Download: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso - Torrent Magnet Link"

Thats the one the ASUS G75VW comes with.

After I click the custom install and then when I selected my SSD volume it says this with a warning message "Windows cannot be installed to this disc. The selected disc is of the GPT partition style." I don't know what to do anymore....

You have selected "P2: MATS....(dvd-drive)" as Boot device? Use "UEFI: MATS....(dvd-drive)" for a GPT Boot disc. Or do you want to disable UEFI and switch back to MBR style?
