Windows 8.1 Upgrade/Fresh Install thread for G75VW

Hi All,

I did a lot of digging and there doesn't seem to be a collective place to get all the info to get the G75VW series notebooks properly running on Windows 8.1

I have a fresh install on an SSD running fairly well, but am running into issues such as Wifi Disconnects and the inability to use the wifi radio Fn Hotkey.

Can we start a definitive list of what software versions/orders work, recommended drivers, etc? I love this G75VW but getting it to run Windows 8.1 is way harder than it should be for this new of a notebook.

Your referencing 2 very different NB here G74VX and G75VW, the G75VW works fine on 8.1 I have no Idea about the G73.
The G75 has 8.1 drivers for WiFi and Bluetooth. My BIOS is still on 210

Arg,

Sorry Clint, typing the post too fast last night. I did indeed mean to reference the G75VW. I do have it running but the issues I currently have are:

Wifi Disconnects when using the latest driver : V10.0.0.263 Qualcomm Atheros Wireless Lan Driver and Application

Hibernation does not seem to work. It drops to a black screen and never fully hibernates

The Fn + F2 key combo does not work to turn wifi on-off. I have the latest ATK package installed, version 100031. Attempting to install the Wireless Radio Control 1001 results in a cryptic error on install.

Everything else seems to work well with the drivers I have found, however the ATK package does not seem to have the on screen notifications as it did in Win7.

Hope this clears it up!

No problem. I clean installed and have no issues, I upgraded from 7 HP to 8.1 Pro with my $14.95 upgrade. After reading your post last evening I found that also my FN F2 does not work. I no longer get the wireless manager to come up. I installed the latest Bluetooth drivers and have an Icon in task bar hidden
I believe that with 8 and 8.1 Hybrid shut down replaces Hibernation? every time you shut down you are really only basically Hibernating? That's how the get the really fast boot times!
Asus put out special win 8.1 driver for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It appears that we lost the wireless manager that used to come up FN F2
Also the ROG power management now only has two options.
All the drivers I'm using are from the Asus Support Download. For the G75VW OS 8.1 and 8.0
Except for the Graphic Drivers which are the latest from NVidia. Chipset drivers newest from Intel, also latest IME, IRST
If you weren't having Wi-Fi issues before the 8.1 install? Then you could try reinstalling that diver with the one Asus site!
