A few weeks ago I got a windows update that required a reboot. After a few reboots and installation screens, it said "We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer". I waited for a few hours and it still said that. I rebooted, same screen. After a few hours of troubleshooting including windows repairs and system restores I ended up reinstalling windows completely. Not fun.
Fast forward to today.
I got a windows update prompt. Didn't think about it. Rebooted. Stuck in same place.
Any idea what is causing this???
Hello,
I had similar problem two weeks ago on the G75vx Asus Notebook
with Windows 8 after reset PC, when updates tryied to be applied
after restarting PC (140 - 180 updates).
It ended with message "failure configuring updates reverting back",
and then installed updates were uninstalled, as at the beginning, after
some time.
Finally I solved this problem by 2 actions:
1. In BIOS, where was UEFI boot, I disabled Secure Boot.
Because, some updates, was trying to overwrite system files,
and with Secure Boot Enable, it was impossible.
This solution helped to solve one half of problems, but not all.
Finally, the second action was needed:
2. In Windows 8 when typing
"services.msc"
in Run Dialog
I found, that on my computer
"Cryptographics services"
was unable to start.
Even when I tryied it to start manualy.
It returned always error 5 "Access denied".
Then on some forum I found, that it is possible to
track with Process Monitor, where is the problem.
I found, that on my computer, during starting "Cryptographics services"
system was trying access in windows registry:
"HKLM\System\WPA"
folder with read/write permission, and it had not be granted.
So I with "regedit" changed access rights for
"HKLM\System\WPA"
(Permissions...)
to "Full Control"
for SYSTEM and Administrators users (or also other, if needed).
After this change in regedit, it was already possible to start
"Cryptohraphic services" sucessfully.
And then these two action helped, that
updates began to work.
( To be true, I also used action 3. , but I think, that after action 1. and action 2. it was not already needed)
3. Also finally I didn't install all updates "at once", but I did it in "small groups of 10-20 updates",
but I think, that after 1. and 2. solutions it was not needed, but I did it, because I did not know at that time,
if there is not else some other problem.
Then was possible also Upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
and later to Windows 10 on this G75VX Asus Notebook.
