I'd go for the first option; just Windows 8.1

Have you ever consider running "winver" OR open the properties of "computer" OR open "system information" ?
the info sits in your installed OS.

Plus, WITHOUT READING - you'll install a RETAIL version of windows and you WON'T be able to activate it properly.

Oh, it's not that bad. In my opinion Vista still holds the title for the worst version of Windows, by a long, long shot! Once you get around the Windows 8 cludged-up UI (or just install Classic Shell) it's a perfectly decent OS.

THis is mis-information. Windows 10 is not free. The UPGRADE to WIndows 10 from Windows 7, or 8.1 is free. If you do a fresh install you still have to purchase it.
