Windows 7 video driver

Hello,

I decided to install windows 7. Does anyone know which are the best video driver for it? I see the nvidia website a recent one from a week ago. Is it stable or should I keep 332.21?

You are kinda on your own with this Drask, hardly anyone installs Windows 7 on the G750 and sticks with it long term. Everyone I have seen try it gives up when they can't get all the hardware to work with the drivers they find - it is possible to do, but not optimal - and over time support for Windows 7 drivers will decrease and then drop off completely faster than drivers for Windows 8/8.1.

Benchmarks show that Windows 8.0/8.1 are just as good as Windows 7, and better in most respects. You can work around the Windows 8 Metro with ClassicShell and other add-ons, so although I work in the Desktop 99.99% of the time, the few times I need to pass through the Charm bar or Metro isn't that big of a deal - it was annoying a year or so ago, but working past it wasn't that bad.

The driver problems are likely universal - rendering happens under Windows 7/8/8.1 the same way - the host OS only provides the api access and the Nvidia drivers are in control most of the time, so if you see problems mentioned for 8/8.1 they likely apply to Windows 7 too.

If I were you I would keep updating to the newest Windows 7 downloads from Nvidia and back off / roll back only if in your games you experience problems.

Thanks, I changed to windows 7 becuase I thought the auto-dim problem was windows 8 related. Tourns out I still have it on windows 7. It's just so anoying.

The dimming problem sounds more and more like an Nvidia driver bug... if you can remember what version you were running before the dimming problem started, see if going back to that solves it.

Hmscott doesn't know what the heck he is talking about. Tons of owners here run Win 7 on their G750, including me, without issue, long term.

My current driver is direct from Nvidia, "clean install", 9.18.13.3489. I believe it is the latest. I was running an older Nvidia driver before this one, maybe 2-3 updates behind this new one. Still a big step up from the old ASUS driver though.

The current driver works perfectly and cranks out games @ 1080p with a high frame rate. Even with most settings maxed out (except AA), Tomb Raider peaked at 72fps yesterday.

When a new update rolls out, check the forum and see what others are posting about their experience with it.

Thanks for responding and helping out Drask, but that comment about me is incorrect, and unnecessary.

I have helped several people move back to the Asus OEM install from Windows 7, and seen even more people try Windows 7 and then move back on their own to Windows 8.x.

I have seen fewer people on Windows 7 than that number, and many times more on 8.x.

Just because you are running Windows 7, and some of your friends are, doesn't mean everyone else is on Windows 7 🙂

as hmscott says, i have the same drivers on my win 8.1 and win 7.
latest i have are 334.67 and are fine on both.
the minor revisions from nVidia make little/no difference in the real world. SOME games MAYBE will give you a few more fps but so many other variables are involved that you have to do your own tests on your own soft/hardware.
i only ever try the latest drivers on an image backed up copy of any os and just reload if anyting goes wrong.

i also need win 7 for some games and also CAD graphics stuff

maybe a bit off-topic: windows 8 is still a home os. we use windows 7 at the office now and that was a major headache upgrading from xp 2 years ago (corporate policy change). need more than 4gb? we had xp64 for that. upgrade involved upgrading almost all the software and a major reconfig of cad data and oracle databases and various shell scripts. it would be a few years before we would even consider win 8. and what for? the core is basically the same and the cartoon metro screen is next to useless in the real working world. as hmscott says, bin the metro, load on classic shell and pretend you are win 7.
