The only thing that's installed was windows defender, I can try and disable it before installing the update I suppose. I had the mcafee bloat ware on my new ROG, but immediately cancelled and deleted it. I'm hoping maybe my SSD partition just doesn't have enough room and fixing the partitions will solve that problem... fingers crossed anyway.

Since this hotel internet is throttled like hell, and I need to get a large enough thumbdrive (I almost deleted my external HDD with backtracker by accident) I'll use Backtracker to image my recovery drive and Mini partition to merge my SSD partitions and try this again tmrw. WIll update post with my results.

Maybe any usb device is the problem. Do you have any device attached on an USB port during the update? Try to do it without it.
Also any special driver installed (included the NVIDIA one) could be the problem.

For anyone who was having the same problems as I was, I got it to work. I was right, there wasn't enough room on the OEM SSD partition to upgrade to win 10. I turned off my win defender to be safe, but after I backed up my system partition with Backtracker, and extended the OS partition to the rest of the SSD, flawless execution of the upgrade. Hope this helps someone!!
