Will Gtx670m work with G73sw??

hello everyone ! i have found gtx 670m which is available in my country for very cheap as compared to other gpu's(even cheaper than my original gtx460m) ... 😄 so i was thinking of buying it and upgrading my laptop to somewhat new series and because the gtx670 has rectangular die so i was thinking of using stock g73sw heatsink with some modifications obviously because g73sw's gpu heatsink's copper is almost same and will fit on gtx670's gpu die instead of using the g73jh's gpu heatsink (also having it)...i just want to know that is there any gtx670m vbios which will work on this laptop or if anyone can mod the vbios for me if possible ? i'll be thankful to him/her 😛 ..eagerly waiting for replies 🙂

hey thanks for the reply and yeah i read that before about the gtx770m upgrade but unfortunately in my country it is a miracle to get laptop gpu's and unfortunately gtx 670m is only the option i have and i asked @jmhdj about the gpu as it is pulled from Toshiba Qosmio x870 to be precise so he advised me not to go for the card pulled from toshiba's laptop because they dont follow the MXM standard similarly to Asus...well it is the only card that i can buy for cheap an i guess it might work hopefully because its in the same shape of mxm 3.0b...if it will boot i only want the fans to act like normal instead of spinig up at high speed and i dont care about the HDMI port i will live without it...i will visit the shop and check if it will work on my asus or not thn i will take the decision of buying it 🙂
and secondly the gtx670mx is of the same shape which comes from asus G75 series...mine is way different thn the asus's model thats why i am asking for opinions and suggestions

That is correct and some ASUS VBIOS do not use the MXM signature structure (rather OROM instead) unlike all the standard MXM GPUs. Starting from the G750 GPUs and up, ASUS has been using the Winbond 25X40 8-pin SOIC onboard, which if you follow along here: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?85716-G75VW-Deep-Bios-Help and https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?85749-Asus-G75VW-BBK5-With-Upgraded-GTX-780M-GPU-Success! you can read how there are ways to get around it and use the OROM (once inserted) instead. Mileage will definitely vary with each model, GPU and VBIOS version. The stages of that mod was very close to being finalized but currently not.

Regarding your GPU upgrade, it would be similar process but most likely your heat-plate, heatsink assembly would need to be swapped over with the proper heat-plate for the 670M instead, as your 460M heat-plate doesn't look like it makes contact with the VRM and VRAM on the 670M.

Also, in the ME FW you can change the port configuration to allow the VBIOS to be read directly onboard the GPU as well (preventing instructions to see OROM) with adding the VSCC (with chip id) that your particular W25X40 PN SOIC uses, but it's been a hit and miss using that method. You also would be required to do a full BIOS dump and have modified descriptor regions (unlocked) followed with the BIOS locks disabled so you can perform read/write to all regions using FPT for testing any troubleshooting changes out along the way (hardware programmer required anyway).

Seeing as how @jmhdj successfully did this kind of modification for this particular model of notebook and you're in contact with him already, you should have your answers.

thank you sir 🙂 actually i am having a G73JH heatsink which jmhdj used while upgrading his laptop's gpu but i would like to check it with my own inspection to see if my stock laptop gpu's heatsink will work on gtx670m or not and i can do modification with the gpu's heatsink if required !
