who removed the numlock and replaced it with the calculator button G74?

To this day I am still finding it a huge pain in the ass to not have a proper num pad button or for that matter buttons that register as numpad numerical buttons.
Trying to play a game and once again the lack of a numpad creates problems for me.

I see the asus g75 has a normal keyboard.
Oh whats that? just use a USB keyboard?
And where would I put that? I do most of my gaming in my room while being up north in a oil sands camp and there is not enough desk space for a keyboard and my laptop, hence why I bought a god damn lap top.

Look at the rage this asstard has instilled in your customers.

After all we all need a calculator quick launch button so we can do basic math in the middle of playing a game.

BIOS 202 or later will make the keypad numbers register as NumPad numbers rather than copies of the numbers on the keyboard's top row.

Unfortunately, the NumLock key will still be missing. The NumLock state is locked "ON" in BIOS 202 and 203.

And take a cue from @grottslampan (I just love to say that name) - or he'll pop out of your bedroom closet like on "Monsters, Inc."

Update the BIOS version with EasyFlash or something. Problem solved.
Currently owning: G74SX-AH71

TorturedBIscuit, do you have a link to a BIOS that fixes the problem? The official BIOS from Asus keeps the broken design.

This is not correct. The G74 has a calculator hotkey instead of a numlock toggle....that's just the way this model is designed. There is no BIOS "fix" since there is no "problem." The key works as it was meant to....it opens the Windows calculator....regardless what BIOS you are using.

Interestingly the numlock can be in an on or off state even with BIOS 203 which flips it on. When I boot into Linux for example, the numpad works as if the numlock was off: home,PgUp,PgDown,End,del, Ins, etc. When I hit the CapsLock key it becomes a numberpad.

I think in Windows there is some program called numlocker that will flip the numlock state on/off for you too, but I'm not often in Windows these days....

Yeah using the program NumLocker, you can control whether your numlock is on or off, even though the light on the top left of the keyboard stays on. idk if you can map the states to keys, but you just right click the icon in the taskbar and select if you want the numlock on or off
