From my understanding, it is not possible to swap GPU's, as they are integrated with the motherboard.

For all intents and purposes, it cannot be upgraded. Hypothetically, your assumption is true, @branzy, but ASUS uses a custom MXM form factor, so you would have to find something that fits. Since ASUS never made anything higher than the 560M for the computers that had it :(, I don't think that you can upgrade it. Not to mention, the increase in heat may tax the cooling system more, and would certainly generate more noise.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

I successfuly upgraded my asus G73SW from 460m to 680m and man it was some boost in gaming performance 🙂

You change only the video card or you upgrade something more?

How did you do it? I believe that the G73 has a standard MXM design, so it can be more easily upgraded. I'm certain that would boost performance! 🙂

Yes connector is standard MXM 3.0b type but asus is not following MXM standards completely so system bios is not recognising cards from other vendors and we all know asus has not their version of 680m.
Basicaly we spent 2 weeks of trying all vbios files on 680m we could find. To be able to recover from bricked vbios flash I soldered wires and sop8 adapter with vbios chip on it and wires to VGA board. Here are picture of adapter I made.
It took some heavy bios modding to get this into reality.
