ASUS G74SX- BBK11. I think its near the end of its lifetime. The Operating System for some reason is not genuin anymore. Its slower than when I bought it. I just want a better way to increase its life. I have no other laptop to get nor can i afford it. I can't bring my desktop anywhere.

1. If you're interested, try installing the 'important' or critical Windows updates (ignore the optional updates though unless you are sure they will be okay) to see if it helps with the genuine Windows issue.

2. There could be different reasons why your system is slower now, but if it works for you, you may want to just erase everything and reinstall Windows if you don't have a lot of data you are worried about to see if this makes any difference (you probably want to reinstall all the critical/important Windows updates though). Otherwise, there is third-party software that will supposedly clean out your system and maybe speed things up a little, but not something that I'm very familiar with honestly.

3. If you are having a problem with the fan, you can always try to buy one and replace it yourself or find someone to do this for you if you didn't already know.
You may be able to find other people to check your system, but if you wish, you can contact ASUS support if you want to send the system back for out-of-warranty repair although you may want to check your system first to solve any of the easier issues and get a better idea of the problems.

Not sure if you were more interested in finding out what kind of upgrades you can do rather than repair the unit, but hope this answers some of your questions.

Good luck!

Thanks but I am pretty sure I can install updates if my windows isn't genuine and right now I am not in much of a position to get a new OS.

I vaguely remember seeing a Windows not genuine error before on one of our older test units before that was not used for a while and was fixed just by installing the latest Windows important/critical updates.

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing the Microsoft verification software was just too old and needed to be updated to recognize the genuine Windows again.

Anyway, just wanted to run this by you in case it can help, but there are probably different reasons for seeing that kind of error.

Otherwise, if you are still using the original ASUS Windows image, you should not need to pay for a new OS as you probably already know and may want to work with us/ASUS Support more on resolving this if necessary which might involve sending back the unit.

If you can still read the product key under your notebook, you can try to use it too.

Big problem. Not sure if any of my family members have done this... But i can't re enter the key because for some reason it isnt Home Premium. It is Professional. I have no idea....

This is fustrating that I may never be able to get this laptop fixed.
