Weight of the laptop a problem/On battery Gaming?

Hello I was wondering whether the weight on the JW variant is a problem I noticed it was 4.6kg compared to the 2.7-3kg of most GTX 765M laptops however I really like the look of the laptop so I am considering it as a college/portable powerhouse system
would I really care if I carried it in a laptop bag until I needed to get it out in lessons etc or should I consider other options?

Myroslav could you run 3dmark or a benchmark off battery? Flea said it would give me an accurate comparison of the slower GTX 765m on battery vs something like intel 4600

Sorry for the delay. I actually did not have any of the 3dMarks installed, so i got the free versions for the testing purpose. Just to clarify, on battery CPU gets throttled up to 28%, but the CPU temperature never rises above 70 degC for me. When i am on power and is stress CPU, its at high 80s low 90s range. As far as GPU, it gets throttled a lot, the memory clock drops a huge amount. You can play average games on lower settings comfortably (or at least i think so). So things like WoW or LoL can run fine. Anything else tends to eat**** and makes you watch a slideshow. That being said:

3dM'06
(plugged in) 3dM'06 (battery)
3dM'11 (plugged in) 3dM'11 (battery)
3dM (plugged in) 3dM (battery)
XTU (plugged in) XTU (battery)

and two images for cinebench (guess which one is which):
vs

And to complete this post, my XTU and GPUT settings:

If you are a slight person, then the weight might be tiring for you at first, and like Flea0 said, a Man shouldn't have any problem with the weight.

The weight will quickly ruin cheap laptop bags - the hefting shoulder strap will roll/collapse - I have a few bags that look like new but I can't use them with my laptops due to the weight - the straps are close to failure.

I have an Oakley bag that is 4 years old, carried an Asus W90 18" laptop for a long time, and other notebooks as well, and it is still like new - shoulder strap wasn't fazed.

And, like Flea0 said the inertia from swinging that laptop will be a lethal combination to both the laptop and whatever it hits 🙂

I didn't notice any weight difference between the JW and JX. They are both a lot lighter than the W90.

I would say go for it, and you will grow used to it over time. 🙂

Well, there was an issue with the G750 series older bios and battery performance which was fixed with the newer bios.
If you change the Power4Gear setting on battery power with the newer bios, it should help with the battery life some.

You may want to discuss more after you get the notebook, and there is a sticky thread Processor stuck at .77Ghz when unplugged [solved w/new bios] about the old G750 bios and battery performance issue if you're interested.

well if you want to compare it to the 4600 you obviously need a benchmark score. my old laptop, an envy 15 with a first gen i5, couldn't play a 1080p mkv movie smoothly when on battery. of course the g750 is better, just don't expect it to run any modern mainstream game when it's power starved.

Yeah, I've gone through backpacks because of the weight of my G53SX. It's a (somewhat lighter) tank too. Make sure that you get something protected, and keep an eye on those shoulder straps. Oh, and depending on how your spine is curved, be careful about bending forward, since the vertebrae in your spine can dig into the notebook.

Something like that, though it's the upper part of your back that is the issue - at least, it is for me, since I don't like my backpack hanging down over the backside...

Weight and battery life can be an issue, sure. I look at this machine as a desktop replacement than you can take with you if you wish. Like anything there are some sacrifices to be made. If weight and less than stellar battery life aren't really an issue, then pick one up. If your willing to deal with those downsides to get all the big upsides that comes with this computer, then I'd say walk, don't run and get one.

I completely agree if you want a gaming powerhouse you are not going to get a light small pc
