Watching a DVD on a 750JX... can it be done with stock WIN 8.0?

I loaded a DVD last night on my 750JX with Windows 8.0 and it wouldn't read/run anything but the enhanced media.... AVERTISING!! What if anything do I need to download or what tweak do I need to make to watch store bought DVD's?

I am running a g750JX RT71 and the disk is DVD not BlueRay. My RT does not have a BR drive.

Thx

gazzacbr, vlc is awesome, but don't count out MPC 🙂

Media Player Classic is also awesome. I tend to use it more than VLC, but I always install both.

I usually install the kl-codec light package from here, and select the option to install MPC, but more recently I have been going direct and installing HPC-HC directly.

Lots of good stuff there.

And, AfterDawn.com is a great place to find such things, and forums for support.

Thanks fellas. I down loaded both programs and they each work perfectly. I would think this powerful a machine and the price asked (worth every penny by the way) would also be able to play DVD's out of the box...... go figure.

Thanks again,

Asus DVD player should have come installed on the laptop. If it is missing you can use the Asus Installation Wizard, located in C:\eSupport.

It probably needs to run the first time to associate media with it. Asus DVD is a Cyberlink PowerDVD product.
