Warranty Work for G55VW DVD Drive

Howdy all!

It seems the DVD drive in my G55VW finally gave up the ghost - it won't read any discs any more, which makes it essentially useless. My machine is still within the 2 year warranty period, but I wanted to find out a couple things before I started. First, I can't be without my laptop right now, I am in the middle of a school term. Do "local" warranty centers exist? I bought it from BestBuy, but they won't do manufacturer warranty work, will they?

Second, Windows is long gone from this machine. All I need is a new DVD drive, but if they try to boot it up, the LUKS encrypted disk won't let them get past the grub boot loader. Will this be a problem?

If either of these are an issue for warranty work, I'll just bite the bullet and buy a Bluray burner to put in it's place.

Well, you would have to contact Asus Support to answer most of your questions!! Personally in your situation I would just pick up a DVD or BR from Amazon and put it in your self its very simple to do This mod has been detailed in this forum you'll have to search it up. If I remember right there is a screw under the rubber leg on that side that released the unit and you just change out the front cover and put it back in. Like I said you'll have to search it up for sure it been a long time since I have seen this issue.

Well for a Blue Ray writer it might be worthwhile to RMA on warranty for a DVD there cheaper than shipping to Asus Repair
