Want to Install SSD

I just bought a Samsung 840 250Gb SSD.

What will I need to do to install it?

I'm thinking of installing it in the slot for the second drive. Then I want to clone my current windows installation & all the file onto the SSD. Ill probably use the software provided by Samsung for that.

Is it ok to install it in the second drive slot or should I put it in the first? And will it work to clone my current windows installation onto it and boot off it from then on?

Should work OK in the 2nd slot. You will need to set the boot priority in the BIOS to make sure it is booting off of the SSD. If for any reason you have problems in the 2nd slot you could always just swap the drives. Before you wipe the spinner I would remove it from the system and make sure you can still boot properly from the SSD. You don't want to burn your bridge until you're sure you don't need it.

I'm not familiar with the Samsung software but if it says it's designed to clone Windows 7 then it should work. The only question might be whether it will clone the restore partition and whether that is even something you want. Many people don't want the restore partition anyway because it takes up precious space on an SSD.

I just recently installed mine. Few minutes to put it into the main slot and did a clean install of windows (figured it couldnt hurt) after backing up. Then put my other two drives in second slot and one in place of optical drive. Works awesome and could not be happier.
