Using SSD as a simple drive (not boot drive)

Hello all,

So I am planning to buy a 250gb samsung ssd, which I intend to use only for games, I mean I am more than fine with current speed of my windows boot, it takes like 15-20 sec to fully load windows from a complete "shut down" so I don't really need even faster boot. Therefore I wanted to ask what would the procedure of installing SSD into my G750JW for only storage purposes (games and some software, like photoshop and etc.) would be? Do I just put it in and use it straightaway or is there something more to do before a proper usage of it?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Just depends on how Samsung formats it, the only thing would be to delete all the partitions if they have some for boot stuff. But theres no options in Windows that you will have to change. I think Samsung sends some kind of setup software with them also. Get 2 of them and set up Raid 0, thats fast. My G750JM starts crazy fast with an SSD as the primary. Windows isn't huge, I think you should just use it as a primary drive. But to each his own.

Did your model come with one hard drive or 2? The JH comes with an SSD mSATA Raid card and an HDD. If yours only came with one drive, you should have a drive bay empty which you can fill. In that case:
Power down, turn it over, pull the rubber lip up, uncrew, put in new drive, put it back together and boot. Windows should see the new HDD, Format it, and you're good to go. Nothing else needed.

I dont know if the G750 with a single drive comes with both drive bay cages? I used a cut up nerf bullet to secure my second HDD in my G74. SSD's are very light and will not move around once connected. Just secure it in place with something pushing on it so it doesnt dislodge from the SATA connector and its fine. I ran like that for over 2 years without issue.
(ROG has simply become too expensive compared to the competition with same specs... 😞 )
