Make sure that the games are not complaining about the graphics driver. I know of a couple of new games that complained about the graphics driver I was using not being the most recent, so I updated and the messages went away.

As far as upgrading the actual chip...

From everything that I've read it's not practical. However, I have read (don't know how truthful it was) that people have had new graphics chip soldered into their motherboard on some laptops. Don't know if it can be done with the ASUS laptop or not.

Of course that means you have to find a shop that will do that kind of upgrade if it's even possible with an ASUS laptop. From what I've read, you'd be better off just buying another laptop when this one is really outdated. Which currently it's really not.

+1 rep for making the point that needed making! Search is a great resource. If you think you've found a new problem/possiblity with the G74/G53, someone else probably found it before you.
