Upgrades for G750JW

Hi guys,

I was recently made redundant so have a little bit of money behind me at the moment and I want to try and make this laptop future proof. I plan to stick 16GB Ram in to replace the current 8GB that's in there. I also want to upgrade my SSD from 120GB to 250GB and upgrade the secondary HDD to 1TB.

Are there any other parts I can upgrade to ensure this computer will run quite happily for the next 2-3 years?

Cheers,
H

You are able to upgrade (as I am aware):

-------------the GPU to 770m ( may be difficult to obtain and hard to install). (The 780m will not fit in a JW / JX chassis.)

-------------the DVD drive

-------------the SSD 2.5" ( the caddy in your machine will fit )

-------------the HDD 2.5" ( there should be a second caddy in the box your laptop came in )

-------------your heat sink from aluminium fins to copper fins. ( may be difficult to obtain )

-------------your paste job when your unit runs out of warranty. ( By then the stock paste will be dry of course. )

What you COULD upgrade?:

------------- the Wireless Card

------------- screen panel ( to a higher Hz if made in the future )

What you cannot upgrade:

------------- The CPU ( soldered onto the motherboard )

------------- USB slots ( if universal ever comes out, god forbid )

A side note.

If you upgrade your GPU to a 770m, I am not sure if you need a new powerbrick or not.

I dislike how the G750's aren't as upgradable as I'd like it.. especially the CPU. It could easily have been a socket.

Thanks for this mate, will the 770M be a straight swap? I've thought about the DVD drive as well, do you have to buy a certain fitment?

Thanks again

Hi !
Happy New Year, What did you do about the upgrade ? Did you bought a 770M ?
Isnt the 765M the only card soldered ? if not then you "only" need to get a 770M ASUS then 🙂

All,

Sorry to bring up an old thread I am about to purchase the below. Can you provide opinions or alternatives? I'm in the UK as well.

Memory: Corsair Memory 8GB Vengeance Performance DDR3 1866 MHz 10-10-10-32 (I can't find the same memory already installed in UK)
HDD: Samsung/Seagate Spinpoint M9T 2TB 2.5
SSD: Samsung 256GB 850 PRO Performance SSD

In terms of memory I was looking at GSkill Ripjaws but thought it was pointless getting 2133Mhz when the memory already inside is only 1600Mhz?

Also looked at the OCZ SSD's the R7 or the Vector but heard great things about the Samsung PRO.

Let me know what you think as I'd like to buy this tonight.

Thanks,
Liger
